Cable companies now do a "speedboost" feature that create short bursts of speed. It's really just them trying to fool us into thinking we got faster interwebs.

I have comcast and sometimes I "speedboost" up to around 20 mbps for brief periods.

I have DSL. It's like $30 a month. It works fine.

On a side note, Kubuntu is awesome .

I got 4.8Mb down/512Kb up which translates into somewhere around 600KB/60KB which translates into 200KB/30KB for me most of the time because of my dad's constand torrents (we are networked)

actually mines sustainable at that speed... the speedboost feature for cox is only active the first few seconds of a download so anything that runs for 5 or more seconds will average out. on a bust test that would just measure the speed boost mine shows about 24mb. it all depends on how the speedtest site u are yousing works...

speednet and speekeasy work good as does dslreports , bandwidth place and any test provided by yur service company is usually rigged.

after u get use to how linux works u should switch to debian pure.

Comcast's boost lasts around a half a minute.

I pay for 6mb/384k

Late at night I can sometimes get these speeds sustained too (Very rare)

My connection speed is "Lets be happy and lets be friends".

Edit....

I cannot install Itunes. it isn't that I can't download it or it will not run, but it screams "GOOD GOD GET THE LUBE, YET ANOTHER CUSTOMER READY TO INSTALL OUR SLOP TO BUY ONLY THE MUSIC HE WANTS!!!!" And I cancel the installation. Do I need therapy?
