Squealing Noise Coming From PC

In Company of Heroes, after the loading is done, it gets to a "Press Any key" screen. During this screen, there is a loud squealing noise coming from my PC, but I can't pinpoint what is making the noise.

It also happens a lot during 3DMark05, especially in the CPU tests. After every frame, it would squeak.

I'm sure there are more instances when this will occur but I've yet to encounter them.

What the heck is this noise?

I had this problem a while back...

it happened when I had overclocked my cpu to 3.8, whenever it went under load there would be a screeching sound coming from it...

I think i read somewhere that it has something to do with the silicon crystals vibrating...

ive had this quite a few times. with me its been capacitor squealing. ive had it one the mobo video card, sound card and the psu. and now i have a new c2d lappy doing it but it is is to do with the cpu and its power saving modes (dosnt do it under full load) ... so open up the rig and have a good listen and try diff parts of hardware out untill u find the problem component

Hmm, is there any chance of something failing because of this? Does squealing mean death is not far away?

Squealing typically isn't good.

I had it in my rig when it was brand new. Its not particularly loud, just a high pitch.

I think InfraRed has the answer

No idea where it's coming from
Simon // InfraRed says:
it's from the power circuits on the motherboard
Simon // InfraRed says:
there must be a coil that's under lots of load
Simon // InfraRed says:
nothing to worry about
- Callum - | [Ⱥɍɍ] ĈŧħΞŦї says:
You mean there's a coil that's failing?
Simon // InfraRed says:
not failing
- Callum - | [Ⱥɍɍ] ĈŧħΞŦї says:
What happened to it then
- Callum - | [Ⱥɍɍ] ĈŧħΞŦї says:
It never used to do this before
Simon // InfraRed says:
it's just resonating. They get hot, and the epoxy that holds the coils still gets looser
Simon // InfraRed says:
or the copper stretches a little bit, and the coils loosen off enough to vibrate
- Callum - | [Ⱥɍɍ] ĈŧħΞŦї says:
But sometimes it happens even when it's not under loads. The CoH "press any key" screen isn't demanding
- Callum - | [Ⱥɍɍ] ĈŧħΞŦї says:
It's just asking you to press a key
Simon // InfraRed says:
doesn't matter, new motherboard soon~!
- Callum - | [Ⱥɍɍ] ĈŧħΞŦї says:
Yea looks like I got one at just the right time!!!!11!1one!!eleventy!1"
