Blue screen of death?
Everytime when I'm in the middle of listening to music and posting on forums, what I usually do, my computer locks up for about 2 seconds then a blue screen pops up with random letters and numbers then reboots quickly so I have no chance to read what it says. Also my CD drive will not eject my CD I have put it, I do have a feeling it's because of the SCSI though showing up in device manager in the DVD/CD Drives bit.

If you manage to copy down the random letters and numbers it would be great. You could do a search up on what they mean at windows website.

According to the internet, some sites say it could be a drive causing it. My CD drive has been acting up by not ejecting my CDs when I put them in... My computer looks like it's loading and about to eject but nothing happens plus in My Computer from the desktop, I click on all the drives and it says please insert a CD when I have inserted it... haha.

1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System (Windows+Pause works, too)
2. Go to Advanced 3. Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings... 4. Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart" This should let you copy the stop code down |

I've never installed drivers for my DVD and CD drives. The only drivers I install are the sound drivers and my graphic card drivers. I've never had to install any optical drivers before and never used to encounter any drive errors like that. I've done what you asked me to and unchecked "Automatically restart".

I think so too, Agility. Can anyone go to www.ebuyer.com and find me a combination drive that reads and writes DVD and CDs please. A drive that does "all". My dads drive does everything too. He has only one optical drive that does everything he said. I want a new optical drive because these two I have now are old and slow at burning etc.

95% of DVD-Writers can read CD-roms and have CD-RW CD-R .etc.... They're mostly backward compatiable.

Dont even need a link pal...just go to any manufacturer's website. Like samsung, sony, LG and stuff. All thier DVD writers are backward compatiable with CD-RW .etc.

I think you'll prefer the pricing of this one. And yes, it does everything.

Well I figured out the blue screen of death problem I think... It says MEMORY_MODULES
then says what to do to stop it and etc. I didn't really read that but, but I just saw MEMORY_MODULES at the top then shut down the computer then took my RAM out and put them back in and properly seated. |

That probably means either one of two things: 1) That you need to update your sound card driver OR 2) That you need to update your video card driver. Have you ever run an intensive game or something and it gave you the same error? Maybe you could run 3DMark 06 or equivalent and check your results to see if it's from your video card driver? If it's solely occurring only when you play music it's highly likely that it's a problem with your sound card driver. Check if you have the latest version of both video and sound card drivers. |

I'm sure I have the latest NVIDIA drivers and sound.
I have this driver for my GPU: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_158.22.html And for my sound driver (it's onboard): At the minute the ASUS site isn't working properly so I can't link you to it. |

I have never had this problem before. I have always downloaded the latest graphic card drivers and same for the on board sound max.

I got that BSOD message when my Memory was failing. Run memtest and verify 100% your modules are not the issue also. Test both sticks at once, then each one at a time to verify if any errors while testing both sticks. Hope that helps!
