best cooler made for a 8800 it's a monster though and needs a 92mm fan but is really good. itsay on thier web page it's for 8800gts cards aswell but new egg says it's only for 8800gtx cards. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835109136

precisely, thats why thermalright is the best air cooler manufacturer (among other reasons)

In terms of aftermarket VS stock... the stock 8800 coolers aren't slack designs, but they can be considered aftermarket. Give it a nice lap and it will perform WAY better, change the thermal paste, it gets better. However the HR-03PLUS's design is very desperate in my opinion.

Why is it desperate compared to a 2900xt the 8800 gtx runs cool and neither of them seems to be effected in the least by the heat. That Thermalright design has been around for several years it was just updated for the 8800 gtx and soon one will be made for the 2900xt.

HD2900XT is even more desperate

The Thermalright is desperate but still good. If AMD and nvidia spent a bit more and made their high ends 65nm, most of these heat problems would go away though.

But look at the Accelero Extreme

, thats the only thing that will make the graphics card run cooler than stock for the HD2900XT

I just lapped and arctic silvered my 8800 gtx heatsink so we will test your idea. took Alot of AC5 to cover that giant GPU

My case temps are fine. In fact even with the stock cooler it dumps some heat into your case.
The cooler was installed upward so its quite near the exhaust fan,that sucks most of the hot air out,also i have a 250mm on the side door panel.And a 90 mm fan keeping the memory chips cool

Well unless you use ati artifacting tast it never heats over 71c but better cooling would be nice.
