ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro Gets AGP Interface
AMD/ATI is preparing to launch ATI Radeon HD 2000-series graphics cards for accelerated graphics port (AGP). As a matter of fact two of the main ATI partners, Sapphire Technologies and GeCube have already started to sell them. GeCube GC-RX24PGA2-D3 graphics card based on ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro graphics processing unit (GPU) and with 256MB of GDDR2 memory onboard is currently available in some Tokyo, Japan stores, according to Akiba PC Hotline website. The novelty costs ¥11480 (about $95) and provides a very cost-efficient upgrade path for personal computers built three or more years ago. The Radeon HD 2400 Pro is fully compatible with DirectX 10 application programming interface, can drive large high-resolution displays and also features an advanced video engine. Apart from GeCube and Sapphire, Tul Corp. is also preparing ATI Radeon HD 2400- and 2600-series graphics cards for AGP systems under the PowerColor brand.

you have to give AMD credit for its continuing support of legacy devices, Intel and Nvidia should really take note.

Mah, I don't own an AGP system and haven't for about a year.
IMHO, if you have an AGP system you need to be saving up money to buy a new system, not wasting it on DX10 video cards.

Most everybody knows that AGP video cards are outdated, but I still see PCI video cards selling on Newegg and ebay... now those are OUTDATED.
If PCI is still in minor demand, then I think ATI is wise to support AGP for a few more years. Like others have said... it is easy money as long as Nvidia offers no DirectX 10 support for AGP.

i could see using the card for dx9 performance and some of the features of the HD series cards like hdmi on a high end 939skt plausible if the price is right
the way it stands right now there is kinda a lul in the dx10 market as well as cpu why not invest a few more bucks until we see some real performance with dx 10 im just gonna laugh when ppl are disappointed that there core 2/am2 cpu and there sli or crossfire setup fails miserably at trying to run ut3 farcry2 and cod 4 at any kind of high settings

too bad that to get its dx10 functionality id need vista which nVidia chose not to support its agp chipsets so wouldnt be able to get much performance out of the cards anyway
the card might have been able to make an older machine last just a little bit longer. (mainly used for network gameing)

It's also perfect for HTPCs built using older, left-over hardware.

Shame the device isn't 2x DVI to drive two workstation screens.
For all the AGP bashers, take a look at the ASROCK Conroe865PE board. Quad Core 2, use your old 2GB of DDR, and AGP. |

Any one know a release date on the agp 2600xt??? My mate is hanging out for one for a HTPC he has built from leftover parts... its a p4 3.2 DDR400 and agp. He had a 9800xt in it but it has died.
The 2600XT would be a perfect upgrade for it...

Your friend (wink, wink) should go for a Gcube AGP X1950 XT. It is about 2-3x as fast as the AGP HD 2600 series according to recent benchmarks I looked at last night.
