run adaware then spybot. run your virus scanner reboot, if it still happens then go into task manager and see what is eating up all of your resources, find and kill it FOR GOOD!

System Specs

1) Spyware/Viruses
2) Harddrive full and in need of defrag
3) Dodgy drivers, dodgy ram/dying hardware causing a timeout.

In my experience its usually Number 1

Don't buy one, get Avast home edition! www.avast.com It's free, it's fast, and it works. It's what I've been using for years.

well its not doing what it was doing yesterday I downloaded AVG and a 15 day trail of kaspersky and scanned everything defraged and ran ad-aware like 5 times....so nothing so far except for the fact that my windows media player cant play downloaded movies etc. any reason why that would happen?

most likely its a software issue.

If you cant narrow it down, a format/reinstall is your best bet.
