Dell to Sell Linux Machines Internationally

For quite some time now, Dell has been offering Ubuntu on it's desktops and laptops in America. However, that was it. Dell only sold Linux computers in America. Thankfully, Dell plans to change all that. The Inspiron 6400n laptop and Inspiron 530n desktop will be the first Linux-equipped Dells to ship in the United Kingdom, Germany, France and China. Dell customers that want Linux pre-installed on their computers will have a choice between Novell's SUSE Linux and Ubuntu. European customers will soon be able to order Linux versions of the 6400n laptop for £329, and the 530n desktop for £399.

Good to see they are moving linux into the home market, they've been offering it on their servers for quite some time now.

It's a good cheaper alternative.

WHAT? Who gave Dell the map of the rest of the world?

3 out of 27 EU states... hmm. Hope they ship to the other countries too (since those are the 3 big languages in the EU)

They will, but they can't ship to the whole world at once .

I wonder what microsofts take on this is? I mean, Ubuntu and Linux are getting a major push here and it is translating into sales.

I have seen RedHat and Ubuntu at a few best buy locations also...

Dell has been selling them, and now internationally....

I hate to say it but I hope MS figures out whats going on here before it destroys them. But at the same rate I hope they don't catch it until linux takes a good sized bite out of their home market.
Force them to start doing their normal stuff better.

I don't mind server 2003..... But check the price tag.
