the 8600gts will kick the crap out of an x850xt..in rdmark 05 the gts did 12,000 plus..the x850xt can't touch that..

They are very close. Once you overclock the X850XT, it would probably outdo the 8600GTS in most of those games.

Pretty sad considering the X850 is 2 generations behind the 8600. It came out in what, 2005?

i could care less whos here.....ATI lovers........it's about what card is better and it's the 8600sts......you think it's the 850 cool keep it..and to say if you overclock the 850 ..lol give me a break i oced my XFX 8600GTS to 740 - 2300....close to 13,000 in 3dmark05..122,000 in aquamark...go fore it x850xt

Haha this is amazing that you guys are arguing over this. I think the point is if someone is buying a new card today, the 8600GTS is the clear winner. Yea, it isn't as quick as the X850XT but it supports DX10 and has, what.. SM 4.0 or something? The X800's were only limited to SM 2.0, and believe me, its REALLY annoying not being able to play games that have SM 3.0 has a requirement.

And what's up with this "Mr. xx%"? Stop the bickering!

Anyways, I haven't looked at benchies on my X800XT in a while.. I'm glad it still has some muscle!

Edit: Personally, I agree w/ Zek when it comes to 3DMarks... its cool to see what your system gets in comparison, but all you do is sit there and watch. Gamin' is where it's at!

That'd be a nay on the 8600GTS. I'm kinda stuck w/ AGP til I do a full upgrade.

But, I have a laptop on its way that has an 8600M GT. I'm pretty interested to see how it is in comparison to my desktop.

Oh yea, how you likin' that E6420? I was gonna jump ship and go Intel this summer, but decided to wait and see what for Phenom and Penryn. In the meantime I'll just be jealous

the 8600 gts doesn't beat the x850xt in games, just check the high res and detail tests, the x850xt with its 256-bit memory bus is able to keep the 8600gts at bay and yes this is quite sad, as the x850xt was released in 2004 (december 1st) which makes it overr 2.5 years older in tech than the gts. and yeah sure no sm 3.0 support, or 4.0 but hey when the game s still look nice, and you've got reasonable frames, who cares, especially being that an x850xt can be had for 50$ while the 8600gts is nearly 200$

so yes at low res and in newer games the 8600gts wins, but thats a small victory over a card that shouldn't be any competition at all. lol

Yea, I'm not complainin' my X800XT can beat out an 8600GTS... but no SM 3.0 is ANNOYING!!! The games that require it just say "tough luck" when it sees the SM 2.0. And yea, you might wanna price check that 50 bucks.. the X8x0's aren't THAT low just yet. But 2.5 years and it's still putting up a fight is awesome lol

EDIT: Yea... 9k on 3DMark06 is a bit far-fetched. Mine was lucky to bump 6k on '05.
