Ageia PhysX: Does anyone on TPU actually own one?

These cards have been around for a while now......will anyone admit to owning one?

They suck. They were dead in the water the instant they decided on a PCI interface over a PCIE one. THis should be fixed at some point though as Ageia have said they intend to release a PCIE physx card.

Actually I think the fact that they released them at the $350 price point with a whole 2 games that support it that killed them from the beginning, not what interface they used.

Well i cant wait to get one personally future proofing. as for the pci interface its just mathmatic calculations for some reason i seriously doubt that a pci interface bottlenecks that.

Its not the interface that bottlenecks so badly, but the fact PCI has so little bandwidth available to it anyway. Even one card on the bus these days essential eats its bandwidth, nevermind if you have 2 or 3. Its when you have more than one CPI card that bottlenecks are introduced, where that wouldnt happen with a PCIE interface.

I dunno... if more game devs decided to support the Ageia card then they could be a saying grace for 'old school' dual core, single GFX card rigs. Like mine! I think it's the lack of support that will drive them out, that and the expense.

Single GPU setups still rule. I'm willing to bet on the grand scale of things 80%+ of people still have a single GPU because it can produce decent performance still.

actually when fox34 got his 8600 sli set up we helped each other tweak our cards because i beat him in everything with my single card so he tweaked and tweaked till he beat mine im pretty sure im living proof single card setups still woop some ass.

Me too. My "lowly" 1950Pro @ 650\1.6GHz scores around 6300pts in 3dm06. A 8600GTS needs insane clocks of like 850-900MHz core and 2GHz+ memory to come close to that.

The price on the PhysX, the utter lack of support for it in games, and the fact that both ATI and nVidia are looking at using one of the cards in an SLI/Crossfire-setup to handling advanced physics is pretty much what doomed them, I'd say.

Yep, lack of games and a high retail price killed it before it even had the chance to take off!

Not worth the money... As current if they cost $50 maybe...

Card that does the job if you have weak video I guess. Great if you are one that buys a new Dell or Gateway that only has 1 pci-e slot and came with a half rate video card... But even then spend the $200 on a video card.
