AGEIA Launches Mobile PhysX Chip for Notebooks

AGEIA Technologies announced today the world's first PhysX Mobile processor, the AGEIA PhysX 100M, for high performance gaming notebook PCs. The new PhysX 100M mobile part is designed to operate, "with power dissipation of nearly 10W under gameplay conditions." It also includes power management features not seen in the desktop version, to throttle down the clock speed and prevent overheating or if the chip is in idle. The new AGEIA PhysX 100M processor is available now. Exciting gaming notebooks powered by AGEIA PhysX Mobile Technology are expected to hit the market very soon.

said Manju Hegde, CEO of AGEIA Technologies.

Ageia originally had my support, but with advent of GPU based physics accelerator on the horizon I no longer feel they will prevail.

Ya I was way stoked on AGEIA when I first read up on it, seemed promising, but the implementation has been lacking. So... I'm wondering why they stuck their heads into the mobile arena instead of garnerning more support from games for their technology. Bring the promise to life before making it maybe attainable to more people.

They probably got some snazzy deal with Dell to trick people into bundling it with their $5000 XPS laptops or something.

But this is worse than using it on a Desktop PC.

In a laptop, this thing will actually be taking some of the battary. So it's not only useless, but it's a parasite.

meh quadcore + software = aegia being quite a pointless company with a likewise product. I hate the fact that some newer games now force you to install the phys x software even if you don't own their product.

You know maybe the fact that their now entering the mobile arena will garner more game support think about it for a minute if you think about it you will realize that the main reason no games support it is because so few people bought it so if more people buy the Ageia PHysx Mobile it might create more game support down the road this fall maybe. cheers to that

In a laptop, Physics isnt useless, especially with integrated video.

I doubt this chip would be used in laptops with integrated graphics (I assume thats what you mean by video).

It will more likely be the domain of the high end desktop replacements which are pretty useless as laptops.

well why would you want to game on an integrated graphics card?? Unless Microsoft has secretly modified the physics or solitiare or PinBall

I highly doubt you'l get any playable framerate with software thats supported by Ageia physX

you might get lucky with C.S 1.6, Unreal Tournament or the old quake games. on software mode with no HW accelleration.

but if u want to waste bucks trying good luck to you as i really dont understand how MUCH performance that having this Physx card in your lappy if your original built in graphics card is already a load of sh!t. hardly worth the few extra frames - thats "IF" the game supports it
