BAH what good are theoretical numbers? Especially if you're on a busy cable network...

Well anyway, my service at home is rated for 7up/1down I believe. The speed test in my sig was on my brother-in-laws fiber optic service last Feb...wish I had those rates 24/7

my router is 10/100 and my 2 computers are 10/100/1000 so i guess its 100mbps

im on a 10/100 router too, which i replaced the other day when my other one died, which made me wonder, why are all adsl2+ routers still only 100mbps?, my computers all have gigabit ethernet, but i couldnt find ANY (modem)routers with gigabit, even the latest £130+ wireless N ones, meh!

Because people don't run cat 6 which is whats really required for "good strong" 1000mbps ethernet to start... Then people don't use networks on average that much so 100mpbs is more then sufficient for about anything the average user will use... On top of all that its a hub/router that switches speeds, and the issue with them is if you have 1 connection using 50mbps your other connection can only use 50mbps they have a cap....

This is where true switches come into play. They allow all systems on the switch to run at 100/1000/2000 etc no matter how much traffic is moving... But they are also very expensive.

I have a few rack mount 3com un-managed switches sitting next to me, they are 10/100/1000 and I payed a little over $350 for each one of them. By the way managed switches start around $500 for small ones if they are decent.

depends.. wired ethernet=100 or 1000 if i can be bothered to install gigabit pci card.wireless runs at 54.im going to try to get a wireless n range extender as soon as possible.
