That's all good, but are they going to release new mobos made specifically for AM2+ CPUs, the ones that support HT 3.0 and all the other neat stuff that's supposed to be part of AM2+? I'm hoping to see one of their republic of gamers mobos for the Phenom, just like the ones they made for the P35 chipset. AM2+ release is not so far away but i've only seen 1
AM2+ board so far, i want to see some official announcements from the mobo manufacturers in regards to Phenom supported boards, not just updated BIOSes for the old AM2 mobos. |

BioStar was the first company to release a "AM2+" mobo, and also it uses nForce 5. This would make it appear that nforce 5 can handle HT3 already, so on boards like this a BIOS update is all that is needed.
As far as a new AM2+ line up you're thinking of the new AMD RD790 chipset. If you think about it, NVIDIA has yet to announce a new chipset for AM2+.. perhaps it is as simple as a BIOS update on NF5 boards.

Yep, the Biostar board is the one i was referring to when i said i only heard of one AM2+ board so far. I did hear about the AMD RD790 chipset announcement but nothing from the mobo makers announcing the actual boards. As for the Nvidia chipset i have a Gigabyte nforce 590 just like the abovementioned Crosshair and M2N32-SLI, it would be nice if only a BIOS update was needed to support and take advantage of the Phenom and its features, but if i'm not mistaken a BIOS update will only let the old AM2 boards work with the Phenom, however the old BIOS updated boards will not take advantage of HT 3.0 or any of the new features since they were designed for AM2 and HT 2.0, a new AM2+ board will be required for that. Thats the way i understand it, if i'm wrong this about someone should correct me.
In any case, my point here is that Intel gets all these new boards for their new line of 45nm CPUs while AMD only gets 1 board so far, this is especially strange since both companies will be releasing the new line of CPUs around the same time. seems like some kind of a bias on the part of the mobo manufacturers. |

Gigabyte, MSI and Asus have rd790 boards, they're probably just waiting for the cpus
![]() Biostar-s tf560 am2+ does not support ht3.0 and split power planes, it's just a nice marketing trick probably. At least the specs say so. |

If that's the case why haven't they said something, they anounce intel's stuff why not AMD's?
In regards to Biostar mobo, it looks like you are right, the only benefit is that it will work with AM2+ CPU without a BIOS update but will not offer the benefits of AM2+. Last edited by KBD; Sep 5, 2007 at 01:53 PM. |

maybe ht3.0 was built into the board and disabled with an older bios? I think its plausible for a bios update to enhance and unlocking features.

Why aren't they releasing amd stuff? We should probably be asking them/DAAMIT.
I'm also waiting for these boards. http://www.gigabyte.com.tr/products/...-m790-dq6.html |

Interesting find, i haven't seen the specs for these RD790 boards on Gigabyte's US or global sites, oddly enough they put em on their Estonian page instead of announcing it everywhere. 4 PCI-e slots seem kind of excessive though, i'd rather see more conventinal PCI, i wonder what kind PSU one would need to run quad crossfire?

Sorry, thought it was estonian since you are from there
![]() Still its odd that they don't have the specs up on their global site. I'll contact Gigabyte and find out when they are going to be out, though i think that my next board will be from Asus, probably from their republic of gamers series. |
