Transformers Movie HD-DVD Exclusive; Will be Released on October 16th

Transformers producer Micheal Bay was quite confused when deciding what to release his summer blockbuster (the Transformers movie) on. Fortunately for anyone with an HD-DVD player, Paramount studios decided to give Micheal Bay a little advice. By promising Micheal Bay enough profits to create a Transformers 2, Paramount ensured that the only HD format Transformers would see is HD DVD. On October 16th, Transformers fans worldwide can see the movie on HD DVD, as well as the standard DVD format. Transformers fans will also be delighted to hear that Transformers will be coming in a two-disk package, which will be ripe with full-HD features. HD DVD owners will also get the benefits of an "Intelligence Mode", which can describe each robot's strengths/weaknesses as the movie is playing.

If more people own Blue-Ray players, how exactly will they make more profit with HD-DVD? The fact that the disks are cheaper can't be that be of a factor, can it?

Let the games begin. Wait, they already have.

Like the picture too... to answer your question - Paramount Home Entertainment is a member of the HD DVD Promotion Group. They are PAYING Michael Bay to use HD DVD... in turn he makes a sequel.

Hence my quote above, not to state the obvious.

I agree, as long as I can see high-def images of that woman I'll be happy.

Should they make enough for roughly 1.5 million potential buyers or just enough for their stand alone players? If BDA has a 2:1 lead on movie titles sold and roughly 5:1 lead over BR players sold how many BR movies of any particular title do they bring to market (without the unnecessary overhead)? Remember this still leaves a 3:1 deficit between BR players sold and BR movie titles sold. Although these questions are rudimentary by nature it does present a quagmire when Hi Definition BR/HD has roughly 1% of the market.

Haha what a bad choice for Paramount...Blu-Ray would have sold so much more...don't matter I'll just get the h264 version of it and stream it to my TV.

Best part is...the trailer was released exclusively on the PS3 because the movie was intended for Blu-Ray lol...I have both players but I really support BR more...its just the better format...I'm prolly gonna end up selling my HD-DVD.

She is hot.

Personally, I was hoping they would have released it in the doublesided disc, for HD and Blu-ray or something, but they didnt. Kind of sucks really.

Paramount and DreamWorks are now exclusive to HD DVD. You BD fanboys can cry all you want about that. I own both formats so I don't care.

Ditto.

And to be honest, there is no quality difference between the 2. So, if I have both options for a movie, I just buy the cheaper one. lol

I don't believe any of the propaganda that Sony and BDA have been cranking out in the press except for the fact that it is less than 1% of the market.

I've seen both and currently have a 360 HD-DVD and I see no quality difference on my 73" Mit DLP nor on my 50" plasma. I have seen the PS3 pull it's HDCP crap and not work on 1080p LCDs though.

I'd like to know exactly why a prev post says BD is the better format. Why because we can expect a rootkit with the PC players if BD were to eventually win? I'd like to see a PS3 connect to a PC and allow you to rip a BD with Slysoft.

BTW Michael Bay isn't doing Transformers 2 in HD-DVD, all he is doing is Transformers 2. Paramount is the one that will stream it, sell it, market it, etc... into their choice of HD format. No wonder so many of you eat up the propaganda. If you read it on the Internet, it must be true right?!

I pretty much agree here. Except on the root-kit part. If you read further into the matter you linked, you'll see that it was the way the security software worked, and that it had been phased out in a product update. It was, in no way, malicious. I seriously doubt Sony will get involved in another true rootkit fiasco involving A/V media. (but then again, the last part of my statement is only opinion.)

As far as the person saying that Blu-Ray is better, I can only assume he means because it can do 25GB per layer vs 15GB. That doesn't really matter anyway. With the current encoding and resolutions, neither format has reached full disk capacity, unless you want to possibly count extras. I personally don't care about extras.

If they haven't already, then sooner or later a company will make a bd & HD dvd player and this "war" will be over. (If they sell it for cheap.) Anyways I only own a xbox hd-dvd player for my computer since it was the cheapest of them all and am glad to see Paramount making transformers in hd-dvd format.(Cause I'm cheap.)

The only reason BD has my support is the higher capacity. I'm all about high capacity storage, and right now bluray is the best for that.

As far as HD/SD content is concerned I'd be more happy with a direct digital download service for my films. Think steam, but for films and tv series. (and yes, I know iTunes sorta does this.. I just hate iTunes is all.)

Then you need to understand how large these movie files are. Did you know there are few TRUE BR50 discs out there even though they are labeled BR50? Here, read the facts, make sure you read DISC SIZE. Notice any true 50 Gig discs? I am sure there are some who don't mind converting all their backup CD/DVDs to BR just to support a format but in all honesty it's a waste of time and not an efficient means to backup media (specially when you already have it backed up and can use any CD/DVD player to read them).

It's truly sad that some people are willing to believe anything to support a format they believe is superior (just because it cost more doesn't mean it's better). If studios ever decide to take BDJ more seriously those with a stand alone will be in trouble won't they (if PoTC is any indication and what about the transfer)?

But don't take my word for it, look at Sony's on slide(s) to see how well they are doing.
