Intel Sets Official Penryn Launch Date

Intel’s Paul Otellini today confirmed the launch for Penryn-based Xeon processors is set for November 12, during the Intel Developer Forum, or IDF. Penryn will be Intel’s first 45nm architecture, designed for mobile, desktop, server and workstation use. Intel confirmed Penryn has a 410 million transistor die. Kentsfield has 582 million transistors while Conroe has 291 million transistors.

Wait, 410 Million transistors? We're talking about the Quad-Core I suppose.

The E5420 looks good.

But the only chipset capable of 1600Mhz is X38.. seems kind of a waste.

Okay, maybe this is a silly question and shows that I haven't been keeping up to date, but what's going to be the public name for these chips when they come to desktops? Core 3?

Err....core 2 quad? Instead of core 2 duo? I mean it's almost the same thing as the current core 2's with a couple of tweaks and more cache.

Nice TDP's on those E series quad cores.
