Tv Tuner card

Im curious if you can change the channel on your tv trough one.. or trough your computer in general... I getting this silverstone MFP51 it has channel button on it but it cannot control other devices such as a tv/vcr (Im old lol)/dvd elc).

Quote:
The MFP51's remote control is software programmable within the Windows environment only.
So unfortunately, it cannot be programmed to control regular TV and DVDplayers.
I dont know why it has channel buttons on this device if you cannot change the channel on your tv...

heres a link to a review http://www.dreamwarecomputers.com/re...erstone_mfp51/

Probably for running the cable line directly into the card.

this device dont have a card though :P its just a mce "type" thing.. Im just curious Im getting this either way for its already ordered :P can turn off my comp from my bed and pause movies elc.. also good for when I move out and turn my pc into a gaming pc/htpc.

Yeah I guess you could prob run the tv/satellite cable directly into your tv tuner card and maybe the tv tuner card has a program to let you change channels and output to a tv. It has to be there for some use lol just I cant figure it out for the life of me.. and when I get this item set up Im just going to use it to turn my comp on elc.. not use it as a HTPC.

When I had a tv tuner, I used extended desktop and hooked my tv up as second monitor. that way, I used to watch the news to see if we were in it while I played bf2.

yeah dual monitors rule for that, I used mine with an Oblivion map/guide page open on my 17".. Im not getting a tv tuner card as of yet.. maybe when I move out. I'll find out about this device I bought down the road.. it must be able to change channels somehow (because it has channel buttons), but its only usable in the windows environment..

wait, I don't understand, why can't you use the tvtuner remote to change the channel rather than the tv remote?

Ah guess my topic title threw you off a bit :P well heres the thing. Im getting a computer lcd bay thing that comes with a remote.. but the remote is only useable in a windows enviroment so it does not work with a tv elc only the 5.25 bay device itself.. well this bay device remote has channel buttons up down, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 elc.. I dont get why it has theses buttons if it cannot be used outside of a windows enviroment.. so Im wondering why it has theses buttons since I dont see a tv tunner card being able to change the channel the cable/satilite...

Its a Silverstone MFP51

but while you're watching tv on the tuner, you can change the channel. it's it's own program within windows that should directly recieve information from the IR reciever. so, I'm still not quite sure what's going on.

edit: wait, I think I understand. screw changing channels on the tv. you just want the tv to respond to only one channel, EVER. that one channel that the tv sees is whatever the tuner is showing.

yeah, I just looked at my cable box and figured out what you're talking about. we use something simmilar here, which decodes sattelite tv, and it's all run off one terminal. we then use cable boxes to further decode the signal. the box changes the channels, the tv itself has been on channel 3 since the day it arrived.

we've been over it. the tv only sees one channel, the tuner changes it internally.
