Component stress... your views?

As sort of a compainion to go with the ongoing thread in the Overclocking section: do you feel it is ok to stress components (specifically processors) at 100% all the time?

Yeah, I mean, they are meant to do that. If you are overclocking wrong and do it, then it's not safe, but as long as the temps are low, it's going to be fine.

I think it's fine as long as you keep temps and volts reasonable.

As long as all your equipment can take it and temps/volts are good you are good to go.

the lifespan gets marginally shorter based on temperature, not stress. as long as you aren't running it super high temps, you'll be fine.

You can have a cold device, but overvolt it, and kill it.

e.g. underclock, and overvolt, and at a critical point, you will kill the device.

But MOST tweeky bits in a PC have a bit of latitude for playing around with, and will not affect the useful lifetime... you will have upgraded long before the change in the devices half-life is practically noticed.
