That's how it started with DVD's, eventually you got players that came with like 50 (crap) movies. Many people bought such offers.

HD-DVD is going to win this race. It's not because one is better than the other. It comes down to brand-name recognition. I mean, to an average, uninformed, middle-aged, non-techie Joe Schmo (or an average soccer mom) browsing through the goodies in Circuit City or Best Buy, HD-DVD sounds familiar. To them, it's DVD only high def. Simple as that. As far as they are concerned Blu-ray is some exotic tropical fish. Also, it doesn’t help that "they" happen to be the majority and HD-DVD players are getting ridiculously cheap

Hd-Dvd for the win, the true successor to the DVD format run by the same people as DVD, the same low cost licensing fee's and free and open development for all. Sony should just quit trying to become the gatekeeper of the next generation format because it is obvious from all of the opposition that the companies against just do not trust Sony and as a consumer i do not trust Sony to run a format for the benefit of the consumer rather than the benefit of themselves to the determent of the other subscribing licensee's of the format, UMD, Mini Disk or Memory stick anyone?

Yet. BD is ahead by far and seems to have more studios backing them. There is room for both and I dont see either of them going away.
