Microsoft Prepares Update for Windows Home Server

Microsoft's Windows Home Server officially launched earlier this month, is already preparing to be updated. Microsoft says that the new update is "part of the ongoing process of continually enhancing the customer experience with Windows Home Server." The update includes a few feature additions for Windows Home Server. Currently, users who login to their server when away from their home network - through an external URL like https://yourname.homeserver.com - are greeted with a security warning. The November 27 update will now provide users with a trusted SSL certificate for their Windows Home Severs. The SSL certification was provided with the help of Windows Live Domains and GoDaddy. Other new features include a "Delete All" button to remove home computer backups. Microsoft has also taken steps to make the Shared Folders and Server Storage aspects of Windows Home Server more robust and user friendly.

I wonder how successful Win HS is? I'm not suggesting it isnt a brilliant product, in fact I think it is probably a superb product... the problem is:

1./ MS is singularly incompetent at selling and marketing its server products to people who dont ALREADY know the product inside out. Just try reading their webpages on server products. If you were a home user or small business user, and wanted to buy a server product, you just get nonsense marketing spin on their website WITHOUT a plain english explanation of WHAT IT DOES or HOW TO DO IT.

2./ MS Server products are HORRIBLY overpriced for the home, or for the small business. If you have a large company or department then, IMO, the server software is very good value for money and brings huge productivity improvements. But for a small business, just try installing a copy of server and/or exchange for say, 3-10 users. It is HORRIBLY expensive for all regular businesses, unless you are a huge profit company like a bank, brokerage or consulting firm.

3./ Educational pricing is great... but in fact MOST educational facilities have deeper pockets than SOHO businesses. Their SOHO products need to be as cheap or cheaper than educational pricing.

I was briefly shopping around, assuming Windows HS would be available similar to the other Windows products, but was having difficulty finding the software. PRICEWATCH and PRICEGRABBER don't find the product with their OS searches (though they find MS Server 2003). Is this a product that must be purchased directly from MS?

Why wouldn't the sell the software openly?! Which OEM's are providing these?

Thanks...I must have missed this when looking yesterday...I was certain that I searched Newegg...must have used the wrong criteria, or wrong area.
