MSI Prepares Two GeForce 8800GT 256MB Cards

MSI announces that it has prepared two GeForce 8800GT 256MB graphics cards that will be priced at $200 and lower. Both the NX8800GT-T2D256E and the NX8800GT-T2D256E-OC are based on NVIDIA's reference design but will have an ATI-theme to them with the red PCB. The stock card will be running default reference speed while the overclocked edition will be running 660MHz (core), 1650MHz (shader), and 1900MHz (memory).

woot. awesome to hear a 256mb version comin out. but i just bought a 22' samsung that runs at 1680x1050 so i may have to get the 512mb right??

I have an x1950xt 256mb on a 22 inch viewsonic and aside from something like crysis I have no probs at 1680x1050 with most games fully cranked, so I thinks your ok!

Knowing MSI, knowing nVidia and knowing how retailers operate, "priced at $200 and lower" means $249.99 at the lowest, maybe $249.95 if we are lucky.

They are going to have to do better than "priced at $200 and lower", since you can expect 3850 cards to be in sub $150 territory and beyond by then, especially with AMD announcing further pricing cuts. If AMD's pricing strategies from their little pricing war with Intel are any sort of indicator, we can probably expect bargain bin prices come Christmas time. Same goes for 3870.

I'm not sure they will up it like that because the 3850 was told to be priced at 179 and when it came out bam it was exactly that. If nvidia is smart they will have the msrp set like 199 so that more people buy them. Instead of making 50 dollars a card and selling 20. selling them cheaper like making 10 dollars a card will keep the main amount of gamers buying them.

It´s fine and dandy to release new cards, but they really should make sure that they can actually produce enough cards to meet the demand.

8800GT in release terms has been a step backwards, it feels like the paper release days again. Anyways if Nvidia prices these below 200$ and the stores really follow the MSRP, Iam sure these cards are a success.

Visiontek 3870 512MB GDDR4 for about $180-$190 @ Dell after 20% paypal discount. By Christmas that will be standard price for these cards everywhere. 3850's will be in sub $150 territory.

nvidia is going to have to do better than their standard BS.

I'VE YET TO FIND PROOF. I don't understand. theoretically more pixels more vram. Yes it uses more but, the only bench I see any difference in. Is a fear bench. using 1gb of ram. The video card wasn't stuttering only the lack of ram. I know I used to have 1gb. But, 8800gt 256 and 8800gt 512.. 5% difference MAX in results. that is the max I have even heard of. But, can someone please confirm 512 being better. As I just got a 22" acer monitor that is 1680 x 1050
