RAID0 recognized as G:

I reinstalled xp on my system last night (I wanted to go to a RAID0) and installed/configured without problem. Just one minor issue - I forgot I had a USB flash drive connected (w/xp drivers), as well as a couple of USB card readers (combo with my Floppy drive). Now my RAID drive is shown as G:.

Any issues with leaving it like this, and/or is there an easy fix for it to be recognized as C:? Repair install with USB's disconnected?

Thanks.

you shouldn't have a problem, but if you want to mess with the letters: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307844

From your post I get that Windows is now installed on G, Don't bother changing it, it'll only screw up your installation. If you really want to fix it reinstall completely.

Yeah, thats right. Oh well, I will leave it as is. Cant be bothered for a reinstall at this point. My RAID's working and that was the main reason for the reinstall. Thanks.

You can change disk letters in Administrative Tools \ Computer Management Disk Manager. BUT if it's the boot device it probably will not change it. If it did as i have tested this out it messes up installs windows patches and all sorts are possible.

One of my games use Securom and it got 7001 error for a reason that was not there. The instructions tell you to edit a part of the reg which stops your comp from being able to login. Well you can login but you are logged right back out lol.. Lucky for me i backed up that part of the reg and found way around it. The 7001 error is to do with mounted disks.

So be careful

you can do it but it'll break links and screw things up like asrock said, the letter doesn't matter, so dont change it unless if you're really crazy about having everything straight

Nah, its fine as is. I was just worried it may have caused problems down the road, and if it was worth messing with. I'll leave it.

Well i do it all the time but my raid is NOT the boot disk. Reason i do it is due to needing the letters all the same on 2 OS's of the same as i all ways like having a back up OS or so i know if some thing goes wrong with one or the other. Allso allows me to be able to link all my programs MUCH faster too.

This makes my games easier to play on both OS's. and don't need a game installed on both OS's.
EDIT
I guess i am crazy about having shi straight

Ahh...same thing happened to me last week when I added another drive to my RAID array, forgot about my usb card reader, ended up with G:\Windows

but as Dan say's leave it as it is or do a reinstall without any other drives plugged in.

Only problem I had was installing some patches that looked for C:\*,but easy fixed when told to look for G:

I reinstalled anyway, but that is just because I am fussy,to help me recognize each partition I just rename them XP or VISTA and dont bother loooking at drive letters
