Are 17'' widesreens not as good as 19'' ones?

Im asking because I can get this and some good DDR2-800 memory. Or just get this.

So in short. 17'' WS and DDR2-800 ram or 19'' WS. I have 2gb of DDR2-533 but I was told DDR2-800 would boost performance quite a bit.

OK... you have 2 seperate questions mixed into 1.

1. a 17" widescreen LCD is VERY small when compared to even a regular 17" LCD. i wouldn't get one. stick with the 19" wide or regular.

2. unless you overclock, the ddr2 533/667 would be fine. 800 is better suited for overclocking. there is not TOO much of a speed difference at stock speeds.

most complaints i've heard are just the chopped off top you get with the wide screens.

people are used to square screens so the wide screen makes your brain think somethings missing or not right with the picture. its not real because you actually get more of the side views you normally dont get to see so you get something extra with a wide screen but your brain thinks your getting less if that makes any sense.

the only real issue with a wide screen is some websites only show in max 1280x1024 so the sides have little strips that are blacked out, otherwise its a personal taste issue, some people just dont like a screen thats wider than it is tall.

as for the ram question you rarely get more than 2 choices so you probably must decide between 533 or 667 with one motherboard and 667 or 800 with another motherboard. you are always better off going with the higher number ram as long as the prices are roughly the same and at this time all ddr2 ram is so cheap you should buy the 800 ram for sure as long as your motherboard will run it.

Well actually how much performance would I lose in my games? I have a HD3850 512mb and a 15'' 1024x768 res right now.

you wont loose any.if you overclock, you will gain performance.

Dont waste your time with a 17in widescreen. As far as hight goes its about the same as a 4:3 15inch.

Go with the 19 wide and just wait a bit longer save a few bucks and get the mem later.

unless you go over 22" you dont have to worry about noticing a difference

Most 19" widescreen monitors have res. at 1440*900. You are going from 1024*768 to 1440*900. Your card will handle it.

I have both a "regular" 19" and widescreen 19" monitor. For gaming, I actually prefer the widescreen (just make sure your games support widescreen resolution!)
