funny thing happened to me today...

i was looking around some ancient cd's i burned years ago, looking for something or other (dont even remember what i was looking for now...)
and what do i find?
my long lost copies of 'mechwarrior 3' and 'mechwarrior 4', and i got to thinking a bit...
'mechwarrior 3' came out in 1999, and 'mechwarrior 4' came out in 2000...
and now its nearly 2006... what happened to one of the greatest gaming franchises *ever*?
why has the gaming industry forsaken one of its best franchises ever? i mean, come on, seriously, GIANT ROBOTS! that *ROCKS*!

now, i know that the whole giant robots theme hasnt entirely disappeared from the gaming industry (armored core for the ps2, mechassault for the xbox, etc'), but what happened to giant robot/mech games to the PC?
why has it been 5 years since this franchise made an appearance?
and more importantly, wont it *ROCK* to have a giant robot game with today's wicked cool graphics?

im sorry if this seems a bit rant-ish, but i just thought i'd share my thoughts...

You can't milk a cow forever.

And if you love giant robots, I believe they were making a trans formers movie

yeah, a damn shame...

and i'll have to agree mechassault is nice but too arcadey.

mechwarrior 3 was definantly the best in the series, in my opinion.

I prefer Mechwarrior 4 as my Favorite but Mercanaries kinda wrecked it, but yeah 3 is good too. but Seriously you haven't played it until you've tried in on a HOTAS setup its sweet(prolly the only reason I dug it outta the bin was cuz I knew I would be able to use it)

mechwarrior

I've been revisiting it myself. basically what happened is FASA, the parent company that came up with Battletech, which is what mechwarrior is based on went bust. Then if I remember right, Wizards of the Coast got ahold of it, jumped it about 80 years in the future and totally altered the storyline. Not just a little bit but a LOT. suddenly everyone lost intrest.. I mean they tried..there were some paperbacks released for the new story line, but about all any one really got excited about was the lumbermech with its chainsaw. Considering they cut down on the number of battlemechs and made it mostly tanks, power armour, and jury rigged industral machines, it kinda defeated the purpose of MECH warriors. Sad. Sad. Then they killed off Victor Ian Steiner-Davion, and a lot of fans (like me) threw up our hands and said "you guys are idiots! I'm outta here" I mean it'd be like doing the X-men Orgins movie and permanantly killing off Wolverine in the first scene and expecting people to still like the movie.
