If you do get a PS3 make sure its the one thats backwards compatible, no point in wasting money on the one that isn't. Or get another video card for SLI.

Get a PS3. I don't understand why people here keep saying "make sure it's backwards compatible"... If you're buying a PS3 it's probably because you want to play PS3 games, not PS2 games. Sure you may want to play a PS2 game from time to time, and if that's your situation, plug in your PS2. Don't go spending a $100 extra for backwards compatibility...That's just plain dumb... They are charging you for a PS2 and a PS3 if you do that.

Now go out and buy a PS3, you won't regret it.

EDIT: If you want the 80gb I wouldn't worry about that. Why? Because you can buy fat32 harddrives for the PS3. IF you ever get to the point where you fill up the 40gb, just buy a cheap 130 gb harddrive or something...

The only difference is 2 usb ports instead of 4. If that's a problem for you, just buy a cheap usb expander. The ps3 is bluetooth enabled also, so usb is sorta a old thing besides being used to charge the controllers.

It's not stupid at all there are plenty of fun games on ps2 that arn't on ps3. Maybe you are buying it for ps3 games but why limit yourself to just them, when there are a lot of ps2 games that are fun.

You can get a PS2 for cheap these days. The newer PS3 have better cooling, and the lower nm chipset dont they?

True but if you you already have a ps2 with games, you're spending a $100 extra for another ps2 (also, keep in mind not all ps2 games are backwards compatible)... Waste of money imo.

If you have a ps2. For me i would get the one that is because i like playing GT4 and the GTA series, and there God of War for whoever likes that game. I'm just not one to limit myself when i can have everything in one system. but its whatever you desire. True not all games are backward compatible but they can always put out a patch for that.

for that 100$ backwards compatibility, just buy a ps2, then you could say you have a ps3 and a ps2. I would feel much nicer owning 2 consoles instead of one.

I wouldn't bother with the PS3. The thing is if your a big fan of the playstation only games likedevil may cry and metal gear maybe you should bother with it, but if not, stick with your 360. Theres a reason xbox are selling more than Sony. Even Sony TV's are falling flat on there arse in the market place, with the likes of Panasonic and samsung ppwning them.

Thanks

Get it, you won't regret it. 2008 is Sony's year with Haze, Metal Gear Solid, Killzone 2, as well as other exclusives coming out. I was iffy when thinking about buying it, but I did and I love it!

Because if you have an HDTV, it upscales ps1/2 games. It looks better than a ps2 hooked directly to the TV.

Is that a fact about upscaling?? Sony tend to make a big deal when a unit does upscale. Like the recorders that I work with.

I'm not sure about games, but when it comes to DVD's, the PS3 is amazing when it comes to upscaling, and the PS3 is also one of the best Blu-Ray players out there.

I don't think I've ever heard that it upscales old games, movies yes, but not games. Link me.

hey just keep the money and get some damn good pc games and xbox 360 games, i mean the only decent ps3 games are the multi format ones like COD 4 which are better on pc in my opinion.

i know they run linux but tbh you have a pc so no need to do that i would run it for fun but no use really.

also blu ray has a less quality selection of movies imho
it has problems with the quaity of the disk itself aswell
just stick to dvd or get a hd dvd [layer good thing is the xbox 360 addon runs on a pc via USB

or just get a Nintendo DS
