need a new monitor

I hate my old 17" CRT, it's killer on the eyes . I'm looking for a new LCD for a cheap price. A 19" would be nice but I'll take a 17". No widescreens or resolutions higher than 1280x1024 either, my system can only handle so much .
So what are some good recommendations/brands i should look at?

I have a 17inch PROVIEW LCD monitor thats perfect, I hate it, but thats only because its max resolution is 1280x1024

Plus I don't think they are expeinsive at all.

I have a Proview PL716s.

just do the advanced search at newegg and look for 1000:1 contrast with widest viewing angle you can find @ 5ms response time and the smaller the pixel pitch the sharper the detail will be

brands would be benQ, hanns-g, samsung, chimei are the good ones and acer is ok too but just ok

Dude, why not a wide screen? You barely see 4:3 anymore. Widescreens are awesome . I just got this and in my opinion it kicks ass. This thing is freaking huge. Whats your budget? This is on sale at cc for $400.

I tend to like this one

I've never really like the fact that there are buttons on the monitor front. So this is the best so far I've seen..
