Why did the startup window get cleared?
Did I accidently click some thing to clear the list?
Or does it do it by itself after a while? Or was it me messing around with the LDT bus and the vcore? The only other thing I did was disable screensaver. ![]() I don't have the slightest idea what happend there. ![]() Could someone tell me? It's a bit worrying.

Just increase this value (in the red box):
![]() To get to this dialogue box, right click the task-bar > Properties > Start Menu (tab) > Customise (button). After this, start all your favourite programs once and they'll all appear in the list. You must have clicked on "Clear List" button to get that blank start menu. |

Thats wierd, I don't recall clearing the list.
Well. As long as nothing else has been cleared, I'll forget about this ever happening. But still, really odd. |

If you've run utilities such as certain anti-spy, registry-cleaners, system-optimisers, etc., it could've caused it. Anyway, get back your missing icons the way I said.

I haven't used any cleaners today of any sort, just been benchtesting with Orthos and thats about it.
Increasing the number of programs didn't fix it as I was already cleared. I fixed it, didn't give me any conclusion to why the programs list was cleared still. I just system restored and they're back there. I must have pressed a combination of keys on my keyboard. I just can't figure out what. @btarunr BTW, your user name. I've seen another one very similar in another forum and the guy had an avatar with some soldier in it too. It was something like ctsrunr. Can you tell me what you user name means? |

lol, ctsrunr is a person I know belongling to the Nuclear Fallout clan (which I'm a member of), the clan operates from San Jose, CA, USA. I'm hardcore Counter-Strike, do visit that part of the world every now and then.
My username though has a tale to it. btarunr = bta + runr = sounds like "Beta Runner" because I participate heavily in the beta-testing of Mozilla products such as Firefox and Sunbird. Last edited by btarunr; Dec 31, 2007 at 08:27 AM. |

@btarunr
Thats really bizzare. Your user names are very similar yet have nothing to do with the same thing you both are in the same CS clan. lol. Do you have any assumptions on what caused it? Last edited by Widjaja; Dec 31, 2007 at 08:36 AM. |

Read post #2. That should fix the problem. It really isn't easy re-installing an OS for most people, where multi-gigabytes of data has to be backed up. Not many people keep multiple-partitions either. And then the whole chores of reinstalling every piece of software, re-applying over 400 MB of updates for Windows XP, the Anti-Virus...it all adds to the "logistical problem" I'm trying to get to.

What, it didn't recover your lost icons? that's not possible, you missed a step. Either you gave it a number and did not re-launch your applications or there's something wrong. That's the only thing you can do while not being a registry-Rambo or re-installing the whole thing.
Reinstalling the OS solves everything, that's not the smartest of the solutions though. The real tough nut is to solve things while keeping everything intact. |

Then there's something seriously wrong with your system because this is the only way 'normal' computers recover from this without having to reinstall the OS. Nobody smart enough would reinstall the OS for such a trivial issue anyway. Simply drag and drop all your favourite icons onto the Start button. That would place all your icons in that location. After you're done, follow instructions in #2, set the value in the 'red highlighted' box to 0.
