BiTMICRO Introduces 832GB SATAII SSD for CES 2008

BiTMICRO, developer of flash disk, solid state disk (SSD), network storage and file cache solid state drive solutions is about to make strong appearance at CES this year. According to a press release, the company is introducing a new, 2.5-inch solid-state drive with the whoppping 832GB of space. The SATA II drive comes as a new addition to the company's E-Disk Altima line, and utilizes a technology the company calls multi-level cell (or MLC) memory, which apparently doubles the number of bits stored per memory cell when compared with single-level cell (SLC) NAND. The drives are expected to ship Q3 2008 in capacities ranging from 32GB to 832GB.

I don't even want to know what the 832GB model costs.

Damn what do those people that said it would take years for SSD drives to reach that high of a storage capacity have to say for themselves now?

Kinda puts a lid on the jar for those that doubted that this capacity could ever be reached this soon.

Although its highly likely that the prices are going to be through the roof for this size of a flash drive.

my guess is that it would cost more than the average selling price of an average American home.

For the ultra-low cost of only 25,000$... (just an estimate based off current pricing)

Or, perhaps the cost of SSD's will finally start to drop to more reasonable levels.

Personally, I'm waiting for the 857GB SSD, which is expected to be twice the price of a 329.75GB SSD.
More random numbers to come.

i doubt i will get one for quite a while(due to current pricing) but hey if it comes down to a resonable price (a 500gb hd these days is about $100) i would pay $200 for it but no more than that

Ha! I totally agree with this statement. How can there be such a huge jump? I thought it would be years before SSD drives reached this kind of capacity.

Once SSD drives are more affordable, they will be selling like hotcakes!! I know that I want to try a few out in my desktop systems and laptop.

They don't just pick random numbers. It's based off of actual flash chips. I think in steps of 8 or 16 or something like that. Oh and to everyone who's saying like it's a crazy size...they just shoved more flash chips in....going to be uber expensive though.

i'd be happy with a cheap 40GB SSD - i do have download PC's, where the only noise is the hard drive, and i'd love an OS drive that never needs a defrag.
