i understand this, but the actual part that you're clocking is within the core?
i'm wondering this because it seems like you would need substantial cooling of the "shader" wherever it is when you reach these speeds, but if it's within the core itself, you can just get a high end cooler like a zalman and slap that on there.

Ah, didn't see that, since mine was a GTS, and clocked pretty well, I didn't really bother looking at the guide, apart from the little pencil vmod for the RAM.
I'll have a look though, I'm getting more interested in this now.

That's a ncie improvement in performance. Really shows why the HD 2900 didn't perform so well. If they could have run the shaders faster than the core, then 320 shaders running at, say 1GHz, could easily have made for a killer card. As it stands now, it's good value, I guess.

Oh, and thank you Cold Storm, it wasn't great, but it was a nice increase in speed.

Can't remember you having mentioned it in this thread, but the temps, what are they like at the moment?
I had mine stable on the stock cooler up until about 95c most of the time, but the clock were of course, nowhere near yours, heh.

Opps, sorry for double postage

Bloody hell, the little 8600GT that could!
Nice OC, and with some extra voltage, I would definately expect clocks of closer to 1000/3500/2400, if you have the 1ns GDDR3 from the 8600GTS (I believe that's where your RAM might be being held back actually), which can do 2GHz no sweat, as it's the rated speed, and many have seen 2.2GHz without a voltage increase.

If youre taking it to those extremes, may aswell get a crapped out old X1950XTX, and rip off the GDDR4, which should technically be pin-compatible with the GDDR3, heheh.
You'd have to research that, but I still remember reading that there was a faster type of RAM that was completely pin-compatible with GDDR3.

ya ill most deff look into it..i just modded my bios and added more voltage perhaps this will work

hmmm i can taste 4ghz you have no idea i just rweally think i can do it...i wonder if im breaking any records....but w/e idrk i know iv earned my title as guru though.

:::EDIT::: i tried googling what the highest shader clock of an 8600GT was but nothing so far im just really curious i cant be the only one pushing it this hard or the shaders rather.

Getting 4GHz is just showing off now, heheh.

To truly call yourself master the the GF 8 series, you've got to grab something like an 8800GT, and run it past 3GHz shaders. Expensive thing to potentially kill though ofc.

in hwbot there like in the low 2000 on the shader but cores in 1000+ h20

so you just need the core higher
