R680 powers Intel's X48

CES 2008: Intel's gone wild

Intel is happy to share with the world that it has a good relationship with ATI, and that it is happy to support ATI's current and future products.

Those two companies put together a rather interesting setup that included the 9770 3.2GHz CPU from Intel, an X48 Intel motherboard and an R680 graphic card.

R680 is already known as Radeon 3870 X2, and it should be available later this month or early next month.

This is what they look like together, and even in Skulltrail Intel was happy to tell the world that it supports two RV670 cards; and that with the right driver it can even do four cards.

That is one BIGASS card. (Cant wait to get one)

Edit: dont like the orientation of the PCIE connectors (not great for CM - at least for top mouted PSU's). Also, are they two different cards (one in the SFF case has the PCIE connectors right beside each other)?

Crossfire X does work with multiple cards, but, the 3870x2 only has one crossfire bridge slot on the side, which looks to be wider than the ones on the 3870s, so if there was a way, i'd say it would have to be over pci-x instead of the crossfire bridges

Could get lucky. It's essentially just (3) 3870's

I honestly loved this card's design much much much more than the black, hot sandwich (9800 GX2)

to make them richer, cuz now adays ppl look at 3DMark scores and want to show off

which they should be working on making one card that can play newer games at high res with good fps

well at least we will be getting multi gpus that run at the same speed.. when they foisted multi cpus on us we had to have much slower ones..

i wished they had have kept making faster and better single core cpus but they didnt..

the analogy is very much the same.. except there is no loss with multi gpus there was with slower multi cpus..

but there will be a gain in some things.. no gain at all in others.. with the slower multi cpus there was a gain in next to nothing and a loss in most things..

course the world never noticed.. mainly cos we only had the one choice they stopped making fast single core cpus.. with gpus the multi gain or no gain will be obvious..

so far no way does it justify double the price.. lets hope it gets better..

$500 seems about right for that card.....did you see the reflection in the scope....I thought it looked sweet on my 3870, but it looked really sweet on that video!
