System Specs

Computer won't start

That's it, basically the computer starts up but doesn't do anyhting. It's on, but there's no video input and neither the keyboard or mouse light up. Never gets to the BIOS screen. There's no HDD activity either. I have swapped out the RAM and reset the CMOS literally about 10 times and correctly too. I have tried with a different monitor i am not just being a twit.
It is a mATX system running on an Abit F190-HD and thus it does have integrated X700 gfx- I have tried switching the gfx to this socket but with no avail. however I sis have the other card in at the same time. As it's in a very compact case I didn't get the card out and I don't have any spares with me- I will try an rectify this aspect

My thoughts:
Gfx card issue?
Motherboard issue?

Suggestions please!

Specs:
Abit F190-HD
E4500 was @3.00
XMS2 DDR2 800 @stock
320MB 8800GTS
250GB Hitachi IDE T7K250 HDD
NEC DVD-RW

I would probably say it's a mobo issue myself - similar thing happened when I killed my old K8N. If it was the graphics card I would expect the keyboard lights to come on, but I'm not certain of that. CPU is also another possibility, but that's extremely unlikely.

Have you got access to another system so that you could test all your parts in that? That's the only way to be certain TBH, if it's the motherboard I doubt there is anything you can do to fix it.

Could be PSU or Dust.

Could be anything

I'm getting ready to swap CPUs. I've changed everything else except the state I live in.

So, I would say, swap CPU if you can first.

i had a similar problem with my 2nd rig ,P3 based tho.

anyway id upgraded the cpu and somehow i hadnt put the heatsink back on correctly and it was doing exactly wat u describe ,started up but no video ,mouse etc i also thought it was the gfx or board that had died ,i redid the cpu again taking care to make sure it was properly attached and the pc booted fine.

maybe nothing like that in your case but might b worth checking.

Sorry to say but pretty sure motherboard is gone. Try the above before you RMA/purchase new though, because I have had the same with an old Sempron Socket A chip. I readjusted the HSF and it ran for another good 2 months before the motherboard died and took the proc with it.

+1 on that. Before you RMA it though, it may be a good idea to test the psu, and/or test the motherboard with another psu.
