Dust magnet?

Has anyone found a way to limit the amount of duast you get on your components aside from a filter on your intake?

pantyhose will make a much better filter than most anything else.

also getting the box up off of the floor helps a lot. if you cant fit it on your desk at least put it on a milk crate or something.

a trick I've found is to place some used dryer sheets directly behind any filter - they don't really impede air flow, and any dust that passes through becomes negatively charged and won't build on components as quickly, and is blown off even easier.

Good idea! The fan will not suck the sheets? Or you don't put it along with fans?

I always put those foam filters. But the problem is they impede the airflow.

it depends on how the fan is mounted - exhaust fans don't get a filter or dryer at all . . .

my intake fans have that highflow thin sheet of nylon-type foam that Cooler Master slaps on their stuff - great airflow, but minimal dust collection. When coupled with the plastic and steel mesh designs of many of their front panels, I'd reckon a good 50% of incoming dust is caught.

If I don't have a means to sandwich a dryer sheet between the foam filter and the case, I'll usually tape the dryer sheet down around the fan in some shape or form, sometimes I'll install a fan grill just to support the center of the sheet or filter, also - or I'll tape in on the backside of the fan.

it just depends on the case design, and how things are laid out - sometimes it takes some thought, other times it's fairly straight forward.

A good idea is to actually keep your room clean.

Dust filters and keeping the computer off the ground only work for so long before the dust just continues its cycle. Regularly vacuuming the carpet after cleaning your desk/furniture with household products will reduce the amount of dust that re-enters the air.

As well as this, keep good ventilation in your room.
My case is about shoulder height off the ground and it rarely ever gets dusty, even with up to 5 fans sucking air into the case.
