gigabyte was originally a great mobo maker, but some of the older gigabyte amd boards were known to be badly built, but gigabyte has corrected whatever the flaw was and has been bringing out EXCELLENT boards that actually beat some asus ones since the p35 chipset and all. so they were bad at one point, but they are some of the best boards on the market as of now!

I don't know whats with all the recent flaming on Gigabyte.
I remember when I wanted to get the P5B deluxe, there were many many ASUS haters telling me to go with the Gigabyte .In my recent mATX build I went Gigabyte, and they have been outstanding. It had RAM divider/ratio issues upon release (Couldnt set to 1:1). Within a month, it was fixed with a new BIOS. Then, there was the same issues with 800FSB chips (they fixed it for 1066FSB+ CPU's but not 800 CPUs). Again, a new BIOS was released and it fixed it. Mind you, its not even on of their "high end" boards and its brilliant.

Yeah, I've been hearing from many people that Gigabytes are very nice boards & OC wise 2nd only to DFI & that the OCability was way easier on the Gigabyte. Sounds like you can't beat it. Although, I don't like their NB/SB cooling if you were to go active cooling.
& I was just looking; they can save you money with DES (Dynamic Energy Saver). What's not to like? |

I was also one of them who complained about Gigabyte. I purchased a board in a local store and after 2 months it broke. When I tried to get a RMA I learned that the board is not supposed to be sold in US and had tough time with them. But patiently explained them my problem and faxed my genuine receipts and serial number from the box they issued a RMA and replaced with a new board that I unfortunately wanted to sell because I ended up building a AM2 system.
The customer service guy became a good friend of mine and I even thanked him on a separate call, for helping me out. I am Sold 200% because of their excellent customer support. If I am buying a board it will 90% be Gigabyte or 10% MSI. Customer service is very very important for a company to succeed. Gigabyte, MSI, Abit, ECS and Biostar are all A++.

In the end it does comedown to the reputation of the hardware rather than the reputation of the manufacturer.

It comes down the reputation of the manufacturer in providing after-sales support.

yes they do, but its the the few bad ones that get in the limelight for instance look at MSI or ECS these days, 3 years ago both where considered to be decent board makers, now most steer clear and 3 years ago no one deared touch biocrap but now there T-force changed it, but i still wont touch a biostar because of the few bad ones.
It comes down to what you want out of a board and how much you pay. Ill say ECS agian, if you buy there elcheapo your getting the same board a PC Chips board is, and it shouldn't suprise you that your limited and that the board is buget based, but also there higherend boards where great, i have an Nforce3A board and it was great, allowed a decent OC to boot and id gladly use it agian. IT comes down to what you want and what you pay. Pay for shit get shit, pay for quality get quality. |
