Monster 56-Inch LCD Monitor Claims 3840x2160 Resolution

Well, really, what more is there to say? Just when you thought the 1920x1080 resolution offered in most retail HDTVs was something to be impressed at, a company named Astro Systems makes an über-monitor. Aside from being a 56" screen, having the extreme resolution of 3840x2160, the monitor actually boasts a lot of features. This crazy monitor can handle up to four DVI/HD-SDI connections at once, and also supports "quad view". Quad view puts all the four sources up on the monitor at once, in four equally-proportioned squares, each presumably 1920x1080. As far as price and availability go, this monitor is aimed towards "digital cinema and broadcast studio clients". In other words, people that hardly need to care about "how much".

Very nice. Perfect for those with TriSLI/Quadfire. Still won't be able to play Crysis on high though

Does anything even extrpolate into that resolution?
Great for multi-viewing, but I doubt I wold want to play a game while watching a movie, etc.

I hear that the ATI 4870 x4 PCIe 4 with DirectX 6 will handle this.

Yea even the server cards don't do anything like that resolution. Not even close actually. That resolution is probably a couple of generations of cards away. Wonder how you would use it.

REQUEST to all manufacturers....

Please make a 2560x1600 in a 24" format. We ALL WANT HIGH DEFINITION without having a screen the size of a football pitch. While those big screens are great for special-purpose... we just want to run our desktops at ultra resolution with 120dpi fonts, so we can see a digital photos in better Q, and read a WHOLE PAGE PDF without having to zoom and scroll.

Desktop sized 2560x1600 FTW!

And our GPUs can handle that resolution easy. WTF are u waiting for? these dollars are burning a hole in my pocket.

and i want 1920x1200 on a 17"

they just run out of space to put the pixels dude. I'm sure there are screens out there that do it, but they wont be as up to date for gaming as the normal 24" screens, and they wont be cheap.

They seem to be on laptops only, unfortunately. If there are some 17" or 19" desktop LCD out there , they're not being marketed very well

The laptop I was issued from work was a 17" model @ 1920x1200. Looked great at 120dpi, especially with Vista which seems to scale all items correctly where as in XP certain text boxes and other items didn't.
