resolution resets

It seems that sometimes when I reboot my resolution resets to 1024x768 @ 60Hz. I have it set for 1152x864 @ 72Hz. It's extremely annoying when I have to change the resolution. Any way to prevent this?

Its doing it because the PC boots with the screen off. Make sure the screen is on and connected while the PC is loading.

Hm, I kinda thought of that this morning when I rebooted it this morning with the screen off. Why does it do that? Is there some kind of fix?

it does it because windows cannot hotplug VGA connections. Its of of the advantages of digital connections such as DVI and displayport.

I dont think he will.. windows detects no screen, so it changes to 'default monitor' drivers. this would undo/reset any resolution settings.

no....

The problem is windows says 'hey i dont recognise this! it must be some crappy old screen with no EDID (ID/detection feature)! i'd better set it to a default setting and let the user change it!'

It works FINE if the screen is detected - the problem is that its detected as the PC is powering on/windows loads, not afterwards. If he wants it to go away, he needs the screen to be on, or go an LCD.

Would hooking the monitor up to a DVI port via DVI/VGA adaptor help?

No it doesnt. The problem is a lack in the VGA standard, and cant be worked around.
Just turn the screen on when the PC boots... its rather simple

Often, i boot with my screen off and no reset of display reso.
I'm @ 1680X1050 60Hz on my 22" Fujitsu.

Try to create your resolution in your drivers or as said, boot with scren on

Good luck

but you'd be using DVI, and not VGA...

No, i'm in VGA ( L22W-2 ... " 3 " version has DVI ).
Some NVidia drivers allow create and fix new reso within the limits of screen spec'.

We can see 1152X864 in some games. But it's so rare in hardware

1152x864 has always worked for me... dunno why some people have trouble.

Anyway - lets do one quick check. What OS are you on, what drivers are you on, and what is the OP on for those.

If you're on say, vista and he's on XP - that could be related as well (i've not had this issue with vista, but i am 99% DVI nowadays)
