onboard gfx feels lonely and refuses to work

the title is my only explanation
the mobo is a gigabyte GA-MA69VM-S2, a semrpon 3000+ and 512mb ram (1gb died)
problem:
onboard gfx refuses to work correctly if there's no pci-e gfx installed on the pci-e slot
reason: loneliness?
with bios F5, the mobo didn't even posted just giving me a black screen with just onboard
with latest bios F7 it posts, but breaks at post (after hdd detection) and gives me a psicadhelic light show ending with a red background and white letters artifacting here and there, as soon as i pop in a gfx in the slot (still using the onboard) it runs fine
fyi the ram died in the same time that this happened, for no reason
any ideas or just rma the it?

meh
1st gigabyte mobo and it dies on me...., never a mobo had die on my hands before
my guess is that a electrostatic discharge killed the ram and fuxored the onboard gfx at the same time, but still no clue to why it works fine with another gfx installed even if it isn't used
