Is the Maximus Formula Motherboard discontinued?

There are a few threads circulating around the net that online retailers are no longer selling the Maximus Formula. After searching a few websites I found 2 of them that are not selling them at all. It's possible that the wording of it is being misunderstood however, places like newegg and tiger direct are just 2 examples. Places that are out of stock like MotherboardPro has listed it as "out of stock".

Looks like they're clearing stock for new models.

Considering Asus is just "rebadging" the X38 to X48, yes, the X38's are done.

Been too busy to research. Is x48 ddr2 or ddr3?

Mainly DDR3, but there are DDR2 variants

X48 is basically a higher-binned X38 with a few memory timing bug fixes.
