ASUS Unveils Desktop Eee PC

ASUS’ Eee PC met with surprising success when it was launched last year, offering users a small, simple and cheap notebook to perform basic tasks such as browsing the internet and creating office documents. The company is now planning to try and build on that success by launching a desktop variant of the Eee PC, currently being called the Digital Home System EP20. Unfortunately there are very few confirmed details – all that’s known is that it will be smaller than a typical desktop PC and come equipped with the same Linux operating system as the Eee PC (based on Xandros Linux). The system is also expected to feature one of Intel’s new Atom processors, which could allow for both single and dual core versions. ASUS commented that prices should start around $199, although DailyTech speculates that the real figure may be closer to $299.

Rubbish design. Look at that coffee catching grill on the top of the box. Bad concept checking. Redesign needed.

Knowing what happened with mobile versions of EeePC few months back I think we can expect $350-$400 retail pricing on launch day for these puppies. ASUS spouted the $199 price tag, but by launch day that sum doubled.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Only ASUS could pull something like this.

Loving the DVI-to-VGA adapter. You'd think they'd at least demo it with a digital monitor.

I think ASUS is onto something with these. I can think of plenty of people who want a simple and cheap internet PC, and get stuck with a piece of crap from a major manufacturer that has Windows and a smorgasbord of bloat-ware that makes it crawl. These Eee PCs are very simple and basic, which for some people is all they need.

Because? When air (or any gas) warms up it goes up, so a vent right above the source is the most efficient...

A vent on top isn't a big issue, people need to not spill shit on it and they won't have a problem. It isn't a coaster, it's a computer.

And I can build a computer that is "good enough" for under $200.

Yeah, and your point. Even if it is on the desk right next to the monitor it doesn't matter. I've never spilled a drink on my desk. Again, it isn't a coaster, don't spill shit on it and you wont have a problem.

I would Buy one if they would sell it about 150
Then I could stay on chat even if I must reinstall system or do any kind stuff like that, maybe if it plays DivX then I buy one to silently watch films, and series on it! But I think it doesn't strong enough to play DivX, Xvid or any kind of compressed video on it!

It is strong enough to play videos on, the Eee PC is strong enough, so this should be.

Wow, looks like Dell has someone to compete with them on the budget end...even though their $499 PC (sans monitor I believe) is probably alot more powerful than this one.
