Asus plans EAH3850 Trinity with three GPUs ( Pics included )

Taken from http://plaza.fi/muropaketti/asukselt...at#kommentti-3

Exclusive: Muropaketti.com got the first pictures of Asus EAH3850 Trinity graphics card which is equipped with three 55 nm RV670 GPUs. Asus engineers have managed to build this proof of concept using MXM graphics modules from notebooks and AMD’s CrossFireX technology. All three MXM modules include RV670 GPU and 256 MB of memory. Two of the modules are located on back side of the PCB and the third one is on the front side. All GPUs are cooled with heatpipes which are routed to rear of the card and attached to separate liquid cooling solution. PCB has an additional 8-pin PCI Express power connector and the card features four DVI display connectors. Currently there are no information about the clockspeeds or availability. All we know so far is that the card actually works.

Thanks to Sampsa from Muro.

Whoah..whats next !?

ATI did the same thing with the 1600xt right? If I recall right, they introduced dual gpu's in the x16xx family (at the time a mid range card)

And with that I think it was over a year before it was available for purchase.. So I doubt we will see this thing at retailers anytime soon.. Not to mention, we still haven't any systems that will make full use of this many gpu's..

when you look at it, why is the 3870X2 called a 3870 when the X2 has DDR3, it should be called the HD3850X2

theres near no difference in the cores but the memory is different

but I didn't even know that HD3850 MXM modules existed, hell I want one for my laptop

I think this is just a pcb to test the HD3850 mxm modules
