Broken AGP card, Fixable?

Just got an X800XL from a member of TPU via Fedex.. and noticed this when i first opened it.

X800XL
(Pic here, look at the TOP near the "R" right below it)

http://img359.imageshack.us/img359/5408/sta60063ej2.jpg

I have no no way touched the card, i just simply opened the box to make sure it was alright and noticed that part was coming off

I believe its Graphics-RAM that has been damaged but it it fixable?

EDIT: Problem resolved, sending back to Rangeone766 so he can fix it. Filed Claim with FEDEX for damaged goods received on delivery.

It looks like a voltage regulator. I know close to nothing on the subject, but on the back of the card where the problem is located is there soldier points pointing through?

You might be able to resolder it on. If you can take a better pic I could tell you if it can be resoldered.

I've seen a picture of the card in question before it was sent (some quick detective work) and it looks ok there, so I expect this is a damaged during transit good.

You should probably contact whoever sold it first to try and get compensation from shipping, and contact a senior mod if there are any problems.

Edit: also guys, don't jump to conclusions about this being a dodgy sale - it could damage the seller's reputation over something that was a complete accident and can be sorted.

if you cant fix it but you still want to keep the card but you cant solder to save your life - then best thing to do is take the card to a qualified electrician to resolder it & also give him a picture/diagram of an overvolt so you can overclock higher - in theory the electrician should be able to fix it as he will know more or less every component thats been solderd onto the pcb & if that individual component is damaged, chances are that he will have a newer parts or the equvalent which is just as good

honestly xazax contact the member who sold you the card & try to get the card refunded because it seems clearly obvious that the member you bought from didnt state that the card was damaged - unless the damaged occured during transit - in which case if the card was deliverd by recorded delivery & also had enough padding shouldnt of happend.

its not your job to clean up after others so dont.

contact an admin/mod & let him/her know of the current situation (if they havent already read this post) & keep them updated. because scamming members wont be tolerated within TPU & is also a immediate bannable offence if the member is caught trying to make a quick buck.

hopefully the previous owner of the card isnt an a$$hat & is willing to refund in light of all this
thanks for calling me a scammer!

and as Jimmy2004 pointed out, it was fine when i shipped it. stupid fedex strikes again. and for the record, i pulled that vid card out of my rig took pics. reinstalled it and used that computer until the night before i shipped the parts.

also i have every intention to make this right with the buyer. sh!t happens but thankfully it is only a old x800xl and not a new high dollar card.

Xazax it dinner time, when i get back in a bit i'll pm you and we can work something out.

Stuff happens, rangerone, didn't ruin any name here with me! I still think your awesome!

But back on-topic, seems to look like it was just a solder joint that has cracked. Would be an easy fix but being worth it is the question here.

A good question would be is if anyone lives close to Xazax that can fix it for him?

until i posted no one knew who the "seller" was, but i did. it makes me feel bad that it got damaged in shipping. i guess i should have known better than to deal with fedex. i usually ship stuff with the post office, but i wanted you to be able to track the package, rather than the post office's delivery confirmation.

i'm too old to deal with giving myself a bad name. so just let me know what you want to make this right. since it was part of a package trade, it makes completing our deal a bit awkward. but i have a few ideas i'll send you in pm, just let me know which works best for you.

Could you possibly post a close up pic of the regulator. A little tape and solder is all it needs. You can see the solder points on the pic I posted.

the card was part of a package deal i traded him for a 8800gs. i will try to fix it when i get it back then donate it to one of my friends if i can get it working.

your right though, i looked at a few high res pics of that part on another x800xl and it looks to be a very simple solder job to repair.
