Seagate brings out new range of hard drives

The new 7900.9 series of drives have 160GB on each platter, and the top model will be a 500GB monster. The drives are available with a PATA interface up to 160GB and with a 3Gbit SATA II interface all the way up to the half terabyte mark. The drives will have between 2-16MB cache, depending on size. The drives are actual native 3Gbit SATA II, which should improve performance, especially when used in arrays. The MSRP for the drives are: $61 for a 40GB parallel drive, $75 for an 80GB SATA drive, and $429 for the high-end 500GB SATA drive.
