M3A32-MVP 790FX help needed..
I'm pretty stumped when it comes to the bios on this board. I am updated to the latest 1002 bios. I need general voltage requirements for the board while overclocked and what is the name of the memory divider and it's settings? Someone who has this board and knows thier way around it would be awesome. I need help with voltage settings, and suggestions for overclocking my X2 5000+ B.E. on it. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if this memory just is crap or not. No matter what divider I have it at I can only achive around 700mhz tops. I really need some insight here... Anyways here are all the bios screens in question...

Change your memory timings, alot of times with AMD systems, when you lower the clock speeds, the timings tighten. Try going 5-5-5-15 2T for starters.

You need to be on T2 for your memory
DDR2 should be at least 2.2v |

2.2v for 800mhz? They are rated 1.8v at 800mhz...

It's DDR2 push them lol
2.3-2.4 is where it starts cooking. turn that multi down and start pushing that FSB over 300 and get some high ram speeds. remember amd memory controler is on the chip. So turn up your vcore before you start going over 2.2v on your memory. |

I'll give it a try, I had 2.1v going through them with my fsb at 250 proc at 3ghz and 1.375v's htt multi at 4 and it was a no go. Is there any other settings besides the oc'ing that need to be changed? Thanks so much for you help.

Hey, what did you have the ram in before and what speeds did you achieve? Have you any other ram you can test to make sure it's just the ram?
I'm using the same ram and I have no problems whatsoever with ram runnin 1000Mhz right now on GEIL Black Dragons/Evoone. I've clocked it and passed post all the way up to 1224Mhz so the board doesn't really have ram issues that I've run into (unless you're mixing ram then that's different). Also what clock are you running your 5000BE right now and how is it achieved (HT Bus or Multiplier)? I see you have a 3850 256Mb card in there...I do believe those are PCI-E 2.0 capable correct? If so then you'll need to make sure that you actually ENABLE that in the bios otherwise you're not getting the full power of the card. Let me know and I can give you all the steps to make sure it's correct (check it out in GPU-Z when done). If you haven't set it up and you know the card is 2.0 capable then it IS NOT running that speed by default because that's turned off stock. Oh, just looked at yoru screenshots and saw your running a 250 HT Bus speed (me too) with a 12x multi (me too again ;P). If so I can't remember what divider you'd be using but for me that's 1000Mhz (due to Phenom). Actually I just pulled up an AM2 memory calculator (can't find my charts) and that's STILL 1000Mhz even for what you're using. Maybe try 214HT Bus with 14x multiplier and that should give you 428Mhz ram speed and 2.996Ghz cpu speed. That may boot up for you but I'm not sure what voltage your particular ram may need in order to boot up higher than the normal 400Mhz but that's a pretty modest overclock so you might be just fine with it. Just make sure your timings are "loose" to ensure it's not a timing issue perhaps try an easy 5-5-5-15 2T and see if that works. Make sure though FIRST AND FOREMOST you set the option for 2T Mode "Enabled" not Auto or Disabled. If you set it for disabled of course you're try 1T mode and I doubt you can run that with that processor, if Auto it may still try running it but just to be safe set it for 2T yourself. The RAM Dividers are different for you since you're using an AM2 cpu so they have ratios that you can find on a chart on the net (do a quick search or use a calculator here http://www.odfg.de/MSC/Memory%20Speed%20Calculator.html for quick guesses). If you were using a Phenom (any model) then the dividers would be 1:1, 1:1.33, 1:1.66, 1:2.0, 1:2.66 (starting from 400 up to 1066). I hope this helps let me know if you need any other help I'm sure you'll like the board though it's probably my favorite board so far I've owned. The bios is not bad as far as options go, but the naming scheme is kinda strange for somethings for sure which is probably why you're stumped. Feel free to PM me, K |

Also your cou voltage is low/not bad.
1.5v is where it mostly(there are a few cherry chips) is where the cpu starts to fly. Uping the NB voltage seems to help in high memory speeds. |

I can almost guarantee that it wouldn't start because you were trying to run the ram at 1000Mhz and it just wasn't having it at that voltage. The ram just might not be able to do it without large voltage...if you end up not liking the ram after exhausting all other methods then I can recommend the GEIL BlackDragon/Evoone ram. It's very low priced (crazy) runs insanely cool and in general achieves very high clocks (highest I've seen is 1332Mhz). I'm speaking of the DDR2 800 verison not the 1066 which I have not done any testing with. I can boot at 400Mhz on 1.8v even though the stock rating is 2.1v, I can run the 500Mhz 100% stable at 2.0v which is fantastic, it always remains perfectly cool to the touch as well even if you do run 2.1-2.2v through it.
Beware though as it's got very tall heatsinks (beautiful pieces I might add) so if you have a large cpu cooler like me (Xigmatek HDT-S1283) then you'll have to use the second set of memory slots. I'd say it stands approximately 40-50mm high at least, the heatsinks are removable but it'd be a shame if you had to. You could always run the ASUS cooler that comes with the board though as it'll still fit. K |

Ok, this is where I'm at now. I have 2.0v on the memory. In order to achieve the 15 (Tras) in cpuz I had to set it to 17 in the bios. Kinda wierd. I had it running with the same cpu v's at a x15 multi @ 3.2ghz and the memory was around 400mhz with that.
![]() So, 300 fsb w x11 multi at DDR2 533 divider should give me 3.3ghz. Any ideas on voltage settings there? |

So you are at 856Mhz on your ram so it is getting faster. |

I was having similar problems with my gigabyte board, which isnt as robust as yours. the BE runs at cpu/8 (cpu/7 at certain points). Thing is, I set mine to DDR800, not 667 like you have. I also noticed that the bios set my volts to 1.8v at stock and they should be 1.9. This issue being corrected has fixed all kinds of problems for me.
@Damulta, I didnt know you needed to up the vcore so high to get some good speeds out of it. I think Im running at 1.45 at the most and it seems to zip for me.

When your pushing it pushing it.
It does very some chips will run lower than others. From what I have found with max speeds pushing around 1.5v is where it gets into the golden clocks. |

Both speedfan and coretemp read 6c idle on the cores, and overdrive reads 0c on both cores. The one temp on speedfan that I think is the cpu temp (not core) idles a 32c right now. Under load it jumps up to 99c on orthos. I have no reason to believe that it's correct either.

Yes, this chip has bad thermal sensors I believe. I guess I'll try the Asus utility.

Try this one(the one that works on 580 boards)
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/840/.html Speedfan reads the motherboard so it should read what it reads in bios. |

Ok Asus PC probe reads my CPU temps correctly. The cores are stuck. But, with a window open, I was idling at 24c orthos load (untill windows crashed) at 32c. Those seem like good socket temps to me, though things weren't apparently stable at 3.2 with just under 1.4v's so I have some room yet. Currently running 230fsb 3.15ghz 1.3875v's / 884 on the ram 2.0v.

Which are the NB / HTT volt adjustments and around what settings should they be at around 300fsb? Again, thanks for all the help guys, I'm lightyears ahead with this board than I was a few hours ago.
