laptop freezing up with Vista
Hi guys, my hp pavillion 9000 laptop with Vista ultimate has always froze here and there, and had to reboot, but now it is totally locking up after only a minute or 2 of start up. The hard part is that you cant do much in that time to change or do anything. It's like the hard drive just stops working. The mouse moves fine, so does the pointer pad, but if you unplug cordless mouse and back in again it will not pick it up. Ctrl-Alt-Delete does nothing as well.
I have read lots about Vista locking up but not like this. It's like my hard drive is dying! Please help~~!! any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The lap top is only a couple of months old and I removed Norton long ago. |

Get a bootable copy of UBCD going and see if it locks up in DOS while testing things.
UBCD will have ram tests, HDD tests, and prime on it as well to test the CPU. Its worth a shot...BTW will it lock up in safe mode after the couple of minutes?

maybe it was a driver issue??? I know im too late to save the messed up vista but keep it in mind for future referance. sometimes to dont need to resort to wiping the drive completely - thats reserved for major mojo fu*kups like trojans having interacial relations with your system files & u cant get rid of it.
patience is a virtue - but if u needed the laptop in a hurry then ts justifyable wiping the HDD

ya I guess it could have been a driver issue, the only problem is I had so little time to do anything once the desktop came up after re-booting. So, ya there was nothing that important on the laptop anyway. And god forbid, if the laptop isnt working, guess who's computer she comes after???? MINE!!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!! you get my drift? LOL thanks for your advice though!
