Need Answer ASAP: 3870X2 or 9800GX2

Hey guys,

I have the opportunity to trade my 2x 8800GT's for either a 3870X2 or 9800GX2. I have a Q6600, 2gb DDR2-800, and an Asus Maximus Formula (flashed to Rampage Formula). Which card do you guys think I should take? I realize that the 3870X2 gets higher 3DMarks, but sucks in games compared to the 9800GX2. My other concern is that from what I hear the 9800GX2 doesn't work too well on Intel chipsets...Can anyone confirm/deny this? I need an answer ASAP!

Thanks,
Matt

GX2 is better. X2 is cheaper. Chipset doesn't matter. Go with the GX2.

Hmm so far not really seeing any definitely good answers. Keep in mind I play Crysis! Also, I'd like to sell the card when the 4870 comes out, so which do you think will have a higher resell? Probably the 9800GX2... I know I seem like I'm answering my own questions, but I really wish someone with experience with both cards or the 9800GX2 on an intel chipset could contribute.

well if your playing crysis i might go with the 9800gx2 ati cards dont do good in crysis(atm)
and it prob will have higher resell because once the 4xxx cards come out the price is goin to drop significantly... lol thanks that car was nice!

Will the 9800GX2 run fine on my X38? I don't want any issues...

It will run. You won't be able to SLI two GX2's though. I'd only get an X2 if you're thinking about getting another X2 for crossfire.

I couldn't get my GX2 to run right on my maximus formula for nothing. Even after I flashed it to the rampage I still got graphical corruption. I haven't messed with the thing for 3 weeks now so some better drivers might be out for it now. The card worked fine on my 780i though. The GX2 is faster than the X2 but don't expect any higher performance out of it than the 2 8800GT's.

I realize it will be about equal with 8800GT SLI, however I just read a review where a 3870X2 keeps up with or beats a 9800GX2 at 1680x1050 (the resolution I use) in most games including Crysis and 3DMark06.

That's why I'm using the X2 - but I use it at 1680x1050 & 1920x1200 My GX2 can't hold out when I'm gaming for over an hour at either setting which annoys the hell out of me

A pair of 8800GT in SLI outrun a single 9800GX2.

speaking from a money point of view you could get the gx2 for a while then sell it later to get a 4870 maybe ? youl should get more for the gx2 when it comes to sale time than a 3870x2

but i do love my 3870x2
