Computer REALLY!! slow
check my dads specs in my rig.
I over clocked his proc to 3.4 and added 2 more gb of ram and it didn't help. it was still slugish. i dont want to format it as his 160gb is almost full. granted he doesnt have a off the wall system but it shouldn't be this slow. Any ideas?

Try doing the built in clean up for windows, spyware and virus scans, and check what he has running, could be something hiding in the processes somewhere.

defrag, ccleaner, registry mechanic, and disable indexing.
to defrag you'll need to move some stuff off the drive temporarily. you need 15% of the drive to be free for defrag. ccleaner... if you dont know how to use it.. it's easy. just look at it. registry mechanic... same as above. just run it and fix errors. disable indexing by going to my computer then right click the c drive and hit properties. at the bottom of the properties box you should see index this drive for faster searching... uncheck that box hit ok... it'll ask if your sure just say yes... the files/folders are protected.. hit ignore... wait a bit and it'll finish. another thing you can do is go to ccleaner and remove all the unnecessary start up programs. after your done reboot the computer. it should run a bit faster now. |

the fact the pc is really full might be slowing it, sometimes its the OS and a simple reinstall of the OS might work
only the hard drive sounds slow, buy a new hard drive and then copy all the stuff you need to that one then format the old drive virus, spyware malaware all slow the pc down but you should have been effect that badly do a crap cleaner ccleaner run on the registry and the other options might have to many programs at start up

mybad, should read previous post 1st lol
![]() If you're using Vista, you can try these tweaks which free up some resources (http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm) He's also got a guide for XP. If that fails, I would upgrade your HDD because you can get a cheap fast 500GB/320GB for ~£40-60 |

Actually now that you have cleaned off that hard drive, if you have a spare HD sitting around, put it in the rig, back up the important stuff and then do a format, keeps some of the stuff safe.

Try downloading PowerDefragmenter.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...agmenter.shtml (The US download link doesn't work, it just gives you an empty folder) I've found it works best for me, because it runs in the Command Prompt, and is very thorough. Also, if you're getting lots of viruses but can't find them, try ThreatFire: it detects malicious traces and activities that normal AVs dont pick up: it works well for me! www.threatfire.com
