Thermal Paste
I was wondering about Thermal Paste here... I've known Arctic Silver has been a good paste to use over a wide variety of other pastes but what I want to know is which one would suit me better?
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Interface Material 3.5g -- Ideal for CPU's Arctic Silver Alumina Thermal Adhesive 7g (2 Part) -- Ideal for VDU's Arctic Silver Ceramique Thermal compound 22g -- Ideal for CPU's Arctic Silver Ceramique Thermal compound 2.5g -- Ideal for CPU's This is basically so I know which to order for when my GPU Cooler comes, the GPU Cooler I have ordered is an Arctic Silencer Rev.2, should be here in a day or two. I'm gathering that the Alumina Thermal Adhesive is what I need, but would the others surpass it when it comes to me wanting to overclock my graphics card? When I get my new GPU Cooler, I'd like to know I have in some way one of the best if not *the* best thermal paste on my GPU's core so I know I can up the overclocking quite well ![]() So I can kill two stones with one bird, I'd like to know which of the above is better for cooling the CPU with a heatsink on it? As when I get my XP-90 heatsink I'll be wanting to overclock my AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 Thanks in advance! --Lee

id get the ac5 i have that works wounders..though im kinda bios about the adhesive because its like epoxy once you get it on it IS'NT coming off and what if i needed to change a cooler? Besides ac5 has a higher temp resistance no that you ever going to reach the heat created by 350,000 watts but thaty lests me know it may absorbe heat a little better...and though u dont need alot 3.5gram is fine for like 14 CPU'S but the other one you had is like 22 grams and that will last you a long time!!!

If so, I'll buy it shortly, as for the 22g of Arctic Silver you mentioned, I don't think that is Arctic Silver 5 :P Correct me if I'm wrong though ![]() --Lee

I use arctic silver ceramique It works well, and it doesn't conduct electicity (which is good if things get messy). I can't compare it Arctic Silver 5 since I don't have any, but I think AS5 will keep you a degree or two cooler.

yep, as5 is for u , Ceramiques have useage for verysubzero cooling & adhesives are totaly outa matter .it seem "More" logical back in days of AS3... , its lowest was minus10 ... real reason started using "Ceramique" was when; regased the promi to run at -70. which silver based stoped doin da job.

Isaar I got a quick question on your specs. Is the PSU the one that came with the case?

![]() It's a recommended PSU from ThermalTake and to be honest it's prooving to be quite a stunner! Only running it on "Medium" setting for now, which is cool ![]() There are four LEDs at the back of the PSU near the switch; Auto / Low / Medium / High As you may or may not know, those are the power settings, I have it on Medium for now, was on Auto, thought stuff that and set it to medium. If the time comes for further power consumption, then I'll consider upping it to High and if that is unstable and I need more power I'll consider buying a new PSU ![]() Though as I said before, it's a good little runner ![]() --Lee

Just ordered myself the following items;
1x Arctic Silver ArctiClean 60ml Kit (2x Bottle) 2x Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Interface Material 3.5g 1x Thermalright XP-90C (Socket 754/939/478) Copper Cooler I ordered the ArctiClean so I can get rid of the current paste on the GPU and CPU when I'm ready for changing the stock coolers to the aftermarket ones =) As for the two sets of the AC5, I thought it's always safe to have a backup just in case, and at least I will have some spare if I decide to build another PC as I have a plan to start modding (never done it before but it's an idea pondering in the back of my mind =)). Hopefully I should have them by this saturday, if not it will be the saturday after this one as I set it for a saturday courrier delivery, saves me having a day off work again waiting for the toss-bags! --Lee

I just sent an email to them *now* telling them I want the Thermalright XP-90C (Socket 754/939/478) Copper Cooler in socket 939 not the other two haha! I hope they get that before they proceed with the order lol!
I don't want a socket 754/478 as it will be useless to me... Bloody hell... I can't believe I was unaware of that, I'm usually 100% cautious when buying things for my computer, but I think the tiredness slipped into gear and pushed me off course slightly! That's the last time I'm ordering ANYTHING when I feel tired lol, I just hope and pray I get the right item! ![]() --Lee

I'll need it, and hey, maybe it might be universal? It's plausible! Plus shouldn't be too hard to do, as it's just a fitting to fit that socket, not the actual pin-holes where the CPU slots, so, meh... I'll hope and pray it'll fit! If not, it'll be returned with a replacement for the s939 version instead ![]() So to tiredness and to them if they send me the wrong goods and if all goes well lets have a to celebrate before hand and afterwards! --Lee

As for os'd benchies, I think you mean OC'd benchies? If so, then I'll need help OC'ing my RAM and CPU, I don't know jack about either, though when it comes to doing the GPU, that will be easy enough, I'll use RivaTuner to do it. The stock clocks for my GeForce XFX 6800 Ultra (256Mb) are 425/1100 (Core/Memory). I'm hoping to hit at *least* 450/1200 with the card though ![]() --Lee
