Why the hell do they deny my xp key

Ok this sounds slightly dodgy but i decided to install xp again because I like a bit of change here and there and I inserted my XP key and the activation screen says it has been entered too many times. Ok I know its a genuine copy because the key is plastered to the back of my case and the cd is a genuine one plus I bought it back in 06 and it worked flawlessly back then so why now is it sayin I can't use it
