Acer Announces G24 LCD With 50,000:1 Contrast Ratio
Acer introduces the world's first LCD monitor, the G24, that supports up to 50000:1 in contrast ratio. Designed to entice PC gamers, the G24 is dressed-to-thrill in an extreme contrast of orange-black colors and sleek contours, and supports high-definition (HD) graphics for intense gaming entertainment.
The eye-catching exterior of the G24 with solid angled surfaces makes an immediate impression, while satisfying PC gamers' needs and imagination. For a complete gaming package, the G24 and the Aspire Predator desktop PC are both painted with uncompromising metallic copper and feature deeply carved line design elements. Blue rays of light emanate from the power button of the LCD and desktop to exude a polished, powerful look. Staying at the forefront of technology, the G24 includes Acer Adaptive Contrast Management (ACM), and is the world's first LCD monitor supporting up to 50000:1 for outstanding contrast ratio. Acer ACM produces dramatic improvement in gradation and detail, especially for dimmer and brighter scenes, resulting in stunning picture quality. Acer ACM also enables the G24 to use less power and save energy. The 24" 1920 x 1200 resolution widescreen G24 is designed for graphics-intensive, win-or-lose moments of today's fastest HD games and multimedia applications. Featuring the Acer OD (overdrive) technology that significantly improves gray-to-gray levels by reducing deviation in transition time, the rapid response time (up to 2 ms) permits immersive 3D graphics and video display. Users simply connect the G24 to Blue-ray Disc™ consoles or DVD players for an awesome cinematic experience! Featuring Acer CrystalBrite technology with 400-nit brightness, the G24 produces vibrant, brighter images via backlit diffusion reduction. The technology promotes clearer images and sharper edges without ambient light reflection. Supporting the latest technology standards, the G24 is optimized for Windows Vista® operating system and supports HDMI™[1] for instant connectivity to DVD players, set-top boxes and HD game consoles. Further, Acer Empowering Technology permits full access to display settings at a single button; Acer eColor Management enables color parameter adjustments with great simplicity; while Acer eDisplay Management allows powerful color enhancement and features smart display rotation software. The Acer G24 complies with the stricter standard of Energy Star EPA Tier 2 criteria for power-efficient design. All Acer LCD monitors comply with the WEEE Directive for environmental product recycling for a greener environment. Source: Acer |

Don't like the orange so much, but those specs are about as good as you can get, spectacular. I wonder how much it costs, $600 maybe?

I kinda have to agree with Qwerty - that colour is very unappealing, they almost look like they were trying to do a Farrari red but missed the target by a few shades. ugh....
Ive heard some bad things about Acer in general, both for their laptops & also their Customer service. some of their stuff is great but Asus do a much better job

It may be a "loud" color, but you could mod the hell out of it. I really like the specs and hope the price matches. I currently have an Acer LCD and its one of the best Ive owned. Not top of the line but it does more than get the job done.

If you had the Acer gaming PC, that matches the color it would probly look ok, well if they sat side by side, but setting alone i have to agree it looks out of place.

I have a 24" Acer monitor at the moment, and its brilliant. I would probably upgrade to this if i had the money...and they got rid of the awful colour scheme.

Great screen, worst color possible. Price is probably outrageous as well. I paid $320 for my 24" & its hands down the best monitor I've ever had - even over the dell
Acer needs to go back to its roots quick - expensive goofy-looking stuff like this will get them no where. Also, its another world's first

How can you game with such a bright (and reflective) colour around your screen ???
I bet the 50k CR will need so much processing that it will induce lag. |

I think its quite nice tbh, good change from the usual black/silver.
That monitor with a windowed black case, orange DFI mobo, orange sata cables, logi G15 and a razer copperhead (red/orange) you would have a nicely color coded rig. |

TN Panels
This monitor is likely to be using an inexpensive AU Optronics TN Panel – sacrificing color gamut, color palate, viewing angles, gray-scaling, deep/dark blacks, screen (backlight) uniformity, for exaggerated brightness/contrast levels (which is great for marketing) and low response times.
It's interesting – a little bit of consumer education would render this type of monitor technology obsolete, forcing panel manufacturers to find and develop ways to make superior monitor technology (VA, IPS) less costly and more accessible. As it stands, the vast majority of panels being sold are now 19- to 24-inch TN panels, as they are cheap to manufacture. Whenever you see a monitor costing less than $500, you get what you pay for – and, many times, it's not much. Many are finding out, the hard way, that the cheaper LCD monitors are a big step backwards from CRT technology. The very best LCD technology (H-IPS), although much closer to, but still not as good as the very best CRT technology (which is still being used today to edit and master today's big screen films), costs upwards of $700 to well over $2,000. i was under the impression that apple also used the TN panels in a fair bit of their lcd's well thats afiak.
i entirly agree with, simlariver. you cant game on a monitor that glares/strains your peripheral vision with a disgusting orange colour. personally i like black lcd's moreso then silver due to the fact that what stands out is the panel. and not the frame. i mean, c'mon who goes out and gets an acer rig?? ![]() thats like spending unnessecary amounts or money on asrock/acer/ecs, which has gotta be one of the most moronic things to do if you want a machine thats reliable and decent. I HOPE THIS SCREEN IS A DISMAL FAILURE. kthanx. |

And I agree 100% with Rash-Un-Al. Tn-Film panels are garbage. The 50000:1 contrast ratio they brag about for this monitor is a joke. The high contrast doesn't do you any good when the screen looks like crap to begin with. All you are gonna get is a highly over-processed image, with lackluster gamut, shitty viewing angles, and I bet a bunch of picture noise from the overuse of overdrive.
