How's this laptop

http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/in/en...8-3739787.html
Is this model comparable to my desktop?
Is the 8200 GPU with it good enough for low res gaming?

STAY AWAY FROM COMPAQ/HP. cheap. cheap. cheap.

The NVIDIA GeForce 8200M will play games at a low resolution. Nothing to get too excited about.

There's nothing wrong w/ compaq, good value. Get a warranty and take care of any laptop. What's the price on that? It's decent, the 8200 isn't going to play the latest and greatest that well, but it should handle most games decently at a low res.

The 8200 wont be anything special, but compared to your X1200 IGP it will be an upgrade lol.

I've gamed on a notebook with a 8400m; it was barely able to run CoH and Team fortress 2. If you are gunna get a notebook for gaming then you should atleast get something with abit more power. The 8200m isnt gunna do much.

What games are you playing? What else are you gunna use the notebook for?

Compaq's good as company. It's not exactly a PC replacement, just wanted a comparision. Games wise the last game I played was Fifa earlier it was halo 1, serious sam, LOTR- Battle for middle earth II. I'm planning to play Diablo III and Virtua tennis some time in the future.
There's an offer where I get a HP colour Printer, Norton(pointless),1 Gb pen Drive, Bluetooth dongle, Data card ,Head phone with mic, Optical mouse, Insurance and some thing else I can't remember. The shopkeerper said he would give the OS for free(Vista or XP). All for Rs.31,000 + taxes.
It's a pretty tempting offer for that rate. An intel one would have cost Rs.40,000 and up.
Also the processor is a 64 bit one(The new Turions).

Here is a list of comparable mobile gcards: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Compari...rds.130.0.html

The 8200 is way low the list. The site does not have a review on it, but I suspect it gets around 900-1000 in 3dmarks06. It might do you gaming needs, but at a really low resolution.

It's not that bad but I for one would go for an Intel system in that price range.

I had been looking at this chart http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-...ist.844.0.html
A similar Intel one would cost me Rs.10,000(238 USD approx) more and this processor is comparable to other intel processors http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4486
Also do the intel mobile processors even support 64 bit OS?
All the low cost intel platforms come with GMAx3100 and ones with a dedicated gcard cost me Rs.50,000(1,190 USD approx).

HP/Compaq is the mainstream brand in India. Other brands have to be ordered, and therefore pricey. Most of my family in India ask me to bring their technology goodies from here in the US, for it is much cheaper, and your getting a better item.

Actually nowadays they most stuff are almost equally priced except for graphics card. The only difference is with the rebates you get it makes stuff more cheaper. Here rather than competing shopkeepers sell all the stuff at an equal price which is a win for them.

Do whatever you like man but don't get that Gemstone POS. I've just seen the exact same model at a party I went used for visuals and it looked like crap. The visuals were slow as hell although it was at a low resolution and the laptop looked like shit. That silver thing on it is just paint and it chips away and ends up looking like you dragged it there tied by a rope on your rear bumper.
