Upgrading, need advice

I'm currently looking to upgrade my PC. I'm almost upgrading my whole PC. All I would keep is my Hard Drive and my CD/DVD drive. I have a budget of about 1000$ and I would like to have an AMD CPU and a NVIDIA video card, but if you advice me to go with Intel/ATI, I can go with theses. I'm not planning to o/c it. So if you got any advice to help me with this new PC.

My current PC:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+
Video card: NVIDIA Geforce 8500GT 512MB
Motherbord: DFI Infinity NF4-SLI
RAM: 1GB Kingston PC-3200 (2x512)

Anyways, I'm am assuming a lot of people will tell you to go with Intel/ATI, which I would. $1,000 is a large budget IMO. What are you doing with this thing? I'm assuming gaming, in which case I think an e8500 with some good cooling will kick some ass, as well as some 1066 RAM for very easy o/c'ing (I am partial to corsair).

I'd go with a 4870 for gfx, and get a nice PSU with plenty of power, corsair makes quality stuff.

As for the m/b im not sure, I have been building budget systems for a while now, someone else can recommend a high end one.

My current PC is the first PC I Built, last year for about 500$. I've did some mistakes while building it with 500$, since I could probably get something better for that price. I won't do the sames mistakes. I'm knowing more now, and I'm asking to experimented people.

you did not include a monitor, he already has a hard drive. I like the Cooler Master Centurion 590 over the 690 yes it doesn't have a reset button or eSATA but it doesn't have the Front Intake Block the 690 does. the Scythe Ninja like the Infinity is BIG and Heavy and even more so once you start adding fans you can never find benchmarks with 4 Fans mounted because your probably bound to have a clearance issue on 1 of the 4 corners with some motherboards not to mention weight. the OCZ kit is a little expensive. The 650TX is a better choice because of the rebate and it was the last one manufactured by Seasonic.

I recommend going my route, the optional components can make just as much difference.

He doesn't plan on OCing. An E2160 at 1.8ghz is pretty meager for a new build.

Christine, I was very limited by the inventory of the web site he said he was gonna use (IDK why he wants to use PC Cyber,but he said that's the site they are buying from). I forgot he was gonna reuse thier HD , so minus the $66 for that. The OP didnt say anything about needing a monitor, so I didn't include one. The case is really totally up to them as that's a issue of taste(otherwise I would recommend Lian Li for every build). And about the e2160 over a e8400 . Get a processor that will atleast be adequate and half way able to keep up when nahelem is released. The system I put together is alot more powerful than what you listed, and minus the $66 for the HD, is only $100 more. Personally, I really don't care if the OP chooses your build, my build, and goes off and puts together a build that doesn't resemble either of our builds. I just making suggestions and trying to help the OP get the most bang for his buck.

i would also go for an E8xx, with the 4870 from ATi - imo that the best kickass option out there.
