OCZ Could Bring NIA to Gaming Consoles

OCZ Technology could take the Neural Impulse Actuator (NIA), a device that provides input by interpreting brain waves to a PC, to gaming consoles where they replace the function of game-controllers. Using the device you could play games with complex and sometimes rapid control such as Unreal Tournament or Crysis without using your hands on a PC, proving it could provide a device input at a very rapid rate. TechRadar met Tobias Brinkmann, director of marketing at OCZ. Brinkmann told that the company was looking into the possibility of developing the NIA to function as an input device for major gaming consoles.

"It's definitely something we are looking into," he said. "The thing we think would be most cool is to get the NIA working with the Nintendo Wii - that would be good. But of course it would be great if we could get it working with all the consoles." Brinkmann also revealed that in the past Microsoft made attempts to acquire the technology from OCZ which was turned down by OCZ, pointing at the potential this technology has.

Yeah. All kids do is sit on the couch staring at the screen while they're playing a game. Stephen Hawking gets company.

yup they've been for sale in aus for a month or two now so far.

console versions would be good, as would cordless. (afaik, its not attached to the PC but you do have a battery pack you say, sit in a pocket/belt whatever. thats how the prototypes worked)

wizz should get a review going on one of these

The fear of the device 'stealing' information (which doesn't look technically true) is what will keep skeptics away.

Good thing Microsoft was turned down by OCZ, cause if NIA was released for the Xbox 360 I am gonna be so pissed. However, the PS3 should work in conjunction with NIA REALLY WELL. Maybe so with the Wii, however I think the Wii Remote is a better buy.

you still do that. this is a KEYBOARD replacement.

in an FPS game, you'd use the mouse the aim and this for the rest (including mouse buttons, if wanted)

Well, they are either not out yet here in the States or we aren't worthy now that the dollar has fallen, because I can't find them anywhere. You can see a pic...But they are always "Temporarily out of Stock".

If it replaces the keyboard then I would totally do it... My only problem is:

Trying to chat on Ventrilo or something. Enemy right! No don't strafe right!

The thing is a buggy mess that needs calibrating everytime you use the thing. There's no way I would put the fate of the known universe/galaxy/planet/country/city in the hands of my brain, that's what my hands are for

How in the hell are you suppose to drive using your freaking brain What fun is it in that.

I want that middleman in there as much as possible until VR is perfected.

WTF!!! So while I am hiding behind a tree trying to formulate a plan in MY BRAIN this stupid thing interprets it as 'oh lookie at the brainwaves... soooo we run out here, right' and throws me into a bloody massacre??

Hmmm... me be skeptical.

its based on muscle control. as a silly example. you could set opening your jaw as the accelerator, your eyebrows as changing gears, and twitching your ears as indicators :P

its customisable because not everyone has the same muscular control, and the sensitivity is high enough that you dont have to look like a retard to use it.

talking at the same time would end up with hilarious results lol.

I'll stick to my logitech G25, I don't want to look like a fuckin retard while trying to drive with my face
