Good highend card that can go with a E4400 at stock?

Whats a good card that can run with a stock Core 2 Duo E4400, i dont OC(most people know that). I want to run games like Far Cry 2 and Project Origin when they come out. I dont care much for bottlenecks since i dont do any benchmarking at all.

I was thinking a 8800 GT or maybe a 9800 GTX+ would good with my CPU.

if you don't overclock even a 8800GT will bottleneck. I have had it bottleneck when myQ6600 was running at 2.4Ghz, with stock 8800GT KO Clocks. The FPS went up as my CPU speed exceeded 3.2GHz whith stock GFX clocks. FYI,

I vote 8800GT Card, or the newer 8800 GTS or GTX series the G92 not G80 cores.

450 budget I'd go w/ a gtx 280. Sure it'll not be able to reach full throttle, but it'll still play all games max settings comfortably for a long time to come, you fps will be plenty.

+1 on the GTX280 if its in budget.

Why dont you OC. Going to 3.2Ghz will give you an unbelievable boost, it not that difficult. 2.0Ghz will cripple any modern gfx card.

Exactly. If you're not sure how to OC, we have guides here, and if needed plenty of people that will help you out.

I'd grab a 8800GT and overclock your e4400. I've got my e2180 @ 3ghz and it's still a bottleneck, but it's not near as bad as it is at stock. If you overclock you can probably go without upgrading to a Q6600.

I'm still confused why you don't oc, we've all told you you can gain a good amount of performance quite easily w/o risking your hardware w/ just a little oc. It seems you are being a bit stubborn w/ little reason. I mean, it's your stuff, and you can do what you want w/ it, but I'm baffled as to why you so adamantly oppose something so easy and free.

I would say maybe the 260GTX, excellent performer, well under your budget, and will give you some time to work with before becoming too dated.

If you've got a 450 dollar budget, why not upgrade your proc AND vidcard since you're not an OC? You can get an E8400 and a 4850 for 450 with a little room to spare which would be a huge boost to your system.

E8600 would be best if they're not going to OC. As long as its priced where it should be.

It supports 1333 fsb chip conroes, but it DOES NOT support ANY 45nm chip. We've actually been over all this in another thread before. Chip upgrade is really only feasible/worthwhile to the q6xxx series, although selling the board for a new board, proc, and vc would probably be the best, along w/ a nice oc.

Well i am stubborn about OCing. I just dont like OCing and i find no point, i guess i just dont need to have the best performance, so i just buy the CPU that i want at the time and at the speed i need it at and just buy it and leave it be.

Thats what I suggested above. And if the OP really isnt going to buge on OCing, they will need an E8600 to get any benefit from a gfx card upgrade.

You will get better performance from a 4850 and E8600 than you will your current CPU and a GTX 280.
